Cottonwood School District’s May levy amount paid off
In August, Cottonwood School District received $408,042 in tax relief from the State of Idaho, primarily funded through state sales tax allocations and redirected state lottery dividends.  These funds allowed the district to pay off its $275,000 supplemental levy, which was voted on and approved on May 19, 2026.  The $275,000 in local taxes will no longer be assessed for the levy.  When you receive your property tax documents, you will still see a line item for the Cottonwood School District with no dollar amount listed.  With the remaining $133,042 in tax relief, the district can use this for building maintenance.  It can’t be used for general fund options.
The district has been fortunate enough to receive tax relief funds the past few years.  Here is a breakdown since 2023, Cottonwood School District received $164,941 in tax relief. That amount reduced the district’s levy from $200,000 down to $35,059, lowering the amount taxpayers had to cover in 2023.  In 2024, the district received $231,917 in tax relief, paying off the entire $175,000 levy that year.  In 2025, the district received $384,886 in tax relief funds once again paying off the $175,000 levy for that year.  In the past 3 years, the district levies were completely paid off, costing the taxpayers no taxes for the district.  We do not know if this will be ongoing and if we will receive it for next year, but we wanted to let the local patrons know that the May levy amount has been paid in full.  
The district appreciates the support that the patrons have shown by having successful levies pass each year.  We will more than likely run another levy this Spring, but the district will continue to strive to be as fiscally responsible as possible.
