Shears places first at Kamiah Invite The Prairie Cross Country team competed at 2 meets this past week. On Thursday, Sept. 18 they traveled to the Kooskia Fish Hatchery for the Kamiah Invite. On Saturday, Sept. 20 they traveled to Eagle Island State Park for the Eagle Island Invite. Kamiah Invite Prairie had 3 girls finish in the top 10 at the Kamiah Invite led by Sydney Shears who took first place in a time of 21:47. Evelyn Gehring was third in 24:30. Callie Remacle was 7thin 26:33. Aubree Rehder finished 12thin 29:48. Lillianne Lustig was 13thin 30:45 and Bella Musick was 14thin 35:54. Prairie was the only school with enough runners for a team score. For the boys Chase VonBargen was the top finisher as he placed 6th in 20:01. Right behind in 7th was Matthew Jones in 20:25. Gabe DeCaria was 20th in 25:44 and Landon Riener was 24th in 27:36. In the junior high competition Madalynn VonBargen placed 2nd in the girls race in 15:20. In the boys race Cameron McLeod was 2ndin 11:35. Koyle Jones finished 5thin 12:22. Aiden DeLorenze placed 16th in 15:50. Isaac Riener was 17thin 15:50. Eli Duman was 20thin 16:48 and Moses Musick was 24thin 25:44. As a team they placed third behind Troy and Timberline with 47 points. Eagle Island Invite In the huge Eagle Island Invite Prairie’s high school teams competed in the JV races. In the girls race, Shears placed 20th in 22:38.46. Gehring was 56th in 25:59.25. Ella McLeod was 90th in 28:15.72. Riener was 111th in 30:40.90 and Musick was 121st in 32:14.75. As a team Prairie was 9th with 251 points. In the boys race VonBargen finished 73rd in 20:24.97. Mathew Jones was 106th in 21:45.44. DeCaria was 191stin 27:17.81 and Riener was 202ndin 30:31.83. Prairie also had 2 competitors in the junior high boys race. McLeod finished 27th in 12:08.34 and Koyle Jones was 31st in 12:16.87. The junior high runners will be competing at the Grangeville Fairway Frenzy at the golf course on Friday, Sept. 26. The next meet for the high school will be at the Spartan Invite on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at Deyo Reservoir near Weippe.
