To the Library and Beyond
Prairie Community Library, Inc. – Your nonprofit, all volunteer source.
We are happy to report that the Picnic In the Park with Concert was not only a community success – thanks to Frances and Carissa, it was also a financial success for the Library, and we thank everyone who joined us for the fun.
When we remember all the progress made with the Library in the last forty years, one thing is very clear – there would be no library today were it not for the volunteers who have built it strong.  Two of the volunteers who spearheaded this organization from the very beginning are Emmett and Cindy Wilson.  With much hard work and many sacrifices, this couple started a community library while they raised their family, and we are very happy and grateful that they did.  Thank you, Emmett and Cindy!  You are obviously a prize-winning couple!  “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action.”
Joan has reviewed the 1921 book, Journal Of a Trapper – Nine Years In the Rocky Mountains, by Osborne Russell.  “This is a very interesting book, with firsthand accounts of historical events.”  It is the journal of the author’s nine years in the northwest Wyoming and southeast Idaho area during the years 1834 to 1843.  Mr. Russell described the land in all of this area, including many streams and the valleys surrounding them.  He wrote about the establishment, in July of 1834, of Fort Hall in southeast Idaho, and working as a fur trapper with Jim Bridger’s company.  Mr. Russell attended several of the famous annual rendezvous events at Green River, Wyoming.  He also described his experiences hunting buffalo, trapping beaver, and many encounters with hostile Crow and Blackfeet Indians.
The Library continues receiving donations of wonderful books.  We are ever so thankful for these lovely donations and every donation of time and treasure that our friends give us.
Sunday 28 September is Gold Star Mother’s Day, as we salute all the mothers whose children have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  Our entire Country is grateful for the service and sacrifice of these families whose courage has kept us “one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library envision a future for our communities that will be as bright – with great individual and group achievements – as any of our history has ever been.
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  “Volunteering provides a sense of purpose and helps enhance emotional well-being.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
