Lady Pirates win 1 of 2
The Prairie Lady Pirates split a pair of league volleyball matches last week. On Tuesday, Sept. 16, they hosted Kamiah and lost ??. On Thursday, Sept. 18, they traveled to Kendrick and bounced back with a 25-16, 26-17, 25-18 sweep of the Tigers.
Vs. Kamiah
Prairie started well against Kamiah. After giving up the first point, they came back to take an 8-4 lead. Avery and Kennedy Riener each served an ace and Kylie SchumacherKylie Schumacher slams the ball over against Kamiah. Prairie led by as many as 5 after an ace by Beka Schumacher but then Kamiah started to come back. Prairie led 16-13 then Kamiah scored 7 straight points to take a 16-20 lead. Prairie got within 2 at 18-20 after an ace by Kylie Schumacher but Kamiah then pulled away to win the set by 5.
Two kills by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Avery Riener gave Prairie a 3-0 lead in the second set.
An ace each by Kylie Schumacher and Mia Anderson and kills by Sierra Oliver, Anderson and Beka Schumacher gave Prairie a 9-3 lead.
Kamiah cut it to 4 before bricking a serve. Beka Schumacher then served 3 straight aces to make it 13-5.
Kamiah came back with a 2-10 run to tie it at 15. Kylie Schumacher then slammed home a spike and Kennedy Riener served 2 aces to put Prairie back up by 3. After a trade of sideouts, Kylie served an ace to make it 20-16.
Kamiah cut the lead to 2 four times but each time Prairie responded. The final time was at 24-22 but Avery Riener scored a kill off a set from Capri Hagen to win the set and tie the match at 1 game each.
Prairie took a 7-3 lead in the third set on 2 aces by Kylie Schumacher, an ace by Kennedy Riener, 2 kills by Anderson and a kill by Beka Schumacher.
A sideout kill by Anderson made it 8-4 then Kamiah scored 7 straight to take an 8-11 lead.
Prairie got back within 1 at 10-11 after an ace by Beka Schumacher but Kamiah then scored 7 straight to take control of the set. They then went on to win by 11.
In the fourth set Kamiah jumped out to leads of 0-7 and 1-10. They went on to lead 6-16 and 9-19 before Prairie fought back.
Avery Riener scored a sideout kill and then a kill by Kylie Schumacher made it 11-19. After a sideout, Kylie Schumacher scored a kill by pushing the ball over the defense to the back line. With Kennedy Riener serving, Kylie added a kill and a block and Beka Schumacher scored a kill. An ace by Riener cut the lead to 16-20. That was it for the Pirates though as they were limited to a block and an ace by Kylie Schumacher the rest of the way.
For the match Kylie Schumacher had 14 kills, including 4 blocks with 1 assist and 9 aces. Beka Schumacher had 10 kills and 6 aces. Avery Riener had 3 kills, 14 assists and 3 aces. Anderson had 3 kills, 6 assists and 5 aces. Kennedy Riener had 2 kills, 1 assist and 6 aces. Tori Shears had 2 kills. Oliver, Harlee Hansen and Kylee Riggers each had 1 kill.
The JV team swept the Kubs 25-23,25-17 and 15-1 in their match.
They didn’t start well as Kamiah jumped out to a 0-5 lead. Prairie still trailed by 5 at 10-15 when they started their rally. After a kill by Alli Rambo for a sideout, Faith Cash served Prairie to within 1 at 14-15. She had 2 aces and Erica Schlader added a kill.
After a sideout, Halee Rowland scored a kill and then went back to serve. She serve Prairie to a 21-16 lead. She had 3 aces while Zoey Behler scored 2 kills and Rambo added 1.
Kamiah then answered back and took a 22-23 lead. Their server got called for a foot fault to tie it. Schlader then served an ace and Behler scored the set winning kill.
Cash served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the second set with 1 ace, 2 kills by Tinley Hibbard and a kill by Halee Rowland.
Kamiah came right back with 7 straight points and held a 7-10 lead before Prairie rallied. Hibbard scored a kill on a free ball and Macie Uhlenkott served 3 aces and Audrey Warren added a kill for a 12-10 lead.
Kamiah came right back to retake the lead. A kill by Schlader and 2 kills by Rambo put Prairie back on top 15-13.
Kamiah tied it at 15 but then Warren scored a kill and Behler served 3 aces to make it 19-15. Halee Rowland added a kill for a 20-15 lead.
After 4 straight sideouts with Rowland and Hibbard scoring kills for Prairie, Cash took over at 22-17. She served 2 aces and Rowland then scored the match-clinching kill.
The two teams played a third set and Bekah Shears threatened to serve all 15 points. She served 10 aces and Kenly Forsmann and Grace Kaschmitter each added a kill. Kamiah got called on a back row attack violation for a 13-0 lead. After a Kamiah timeout, Shears finally missed a serve. Forsmann then scored a kill for a sideout and then served an ace to end the match.
At Kendrick
We were told Prairie played probably their best match of the season is sweeping Kendrick in the Tigers’ gym.
Cousins Kylie and Beka Schumacher, who had 11 kills apiece.
Sisters Kennedy and Avery Riener added five aces and 16 assists, respectively, and Oliver provided 10 digs for Prairie.
Prairie is now 3-7 overall and 3-6 in league play.
The JV team won 25-13, 25-12.
And the C team made it a perfect 7-0 on the day by winning 25-13, 25-11.
