Lady Patriots have busy week
The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots had a busy week as they played 3 league matches plus hosted a tournament.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, they hosted Genesee and lost in straight sets 20-25, 14-25, 15-25. On Thursday, Sept. 18, they traveled to Deary and lost in straight sets 10-25, 15-25, 20-25.
That is all the information we have on those matches other than Savannah Perrin was honored on Senior Night prior to the Genesee match.
On Saturday, Sept. 20, they hosted the first St. John Bosco tournament where they finished 4th out of 5 teams.
Finally on Monday, Sept. 22, they traveled to Highland and won 25-18, 16-25, 25-23, 25-20.
SJB Tournament
The St. John Bosco Tournament featured round robin pool play where each team faced every other team in 1 set to 25 points. Catherine Beckman goes up for a spike during the tournament hosted by St. John Bosco on Saturday. Also shown is Miah Mager.
Teams were then seeded into a bracket from the results of pool play.
Bosco opened pool play with an 8-25 loss to Nezperce.
They quickly fell behind 1-12 with the only point coming on a kill by Cece Remacle. They fought back within 7 on 2 kills by Savannah Perrin, a kill by Remacle, an ace by Catherine Seubert, a kill by Catherine Beckman and an ace by Perrin that made it 7-14.
Nezperce responded with 8 straight points and Bosco’s only point the rest of the set came on a missed Nezperce serve.
They then lost 8-25 to Salmon River.
They fell behind 0-5 and 3-8. All three of the Patriots’ points came on kills by Perrin.
Salmon River then scored 13 straight points for a 3-21 lead before missing a serve. Beckman scored a kill to make it 5-21.
A kill by Seubert made it 6-22 and their 7th and 8th points came on missed Salmon River serves.
They then lost to Timberline 20-25.
In this match Bosco took their first lead of the day when Perrin scored a kill for a 1-0 lead. Timberline then took the lead but Bosco came back after a missed Timberline serve made it 4-5.
With Madeline Wassmuth serving, Bosco took a 7-5 lead on a kill each by Remacle, Beckman and Wassmuth.
Timberline came back to tie it at 8-8 but Miah Mager scored a kill and Beckman served 2 aces for an 11-8 lead.
Timberline tied it at 13 and 14 but Bosco responded with a tip by Perrin and a kill by Seubert. Timberline tied it at 17 but Beckman then scored a kill to retake the lead. The Spartans then scored 4 straight to take an 18-21 lead. A sideout kill by Bekcman and a kill by Perrin made it 20-21 but Timberline then scored the final 4 points.
Bosco finally got a win by beating Highland 25-18.
It didn’t start well as High scored the first 2 points. Bosco took their first lead at 7-6 after a kill each by Perrin and Remacle and an ace by Perrin.
Highland took the lead back and held it until Wassmuth stepped to the service line with the score at 17-18. She then served out the set. She had 5 aces while Remacle and Beckman each added a kill and a Highland net violation accounted for the other point.
In best 2 of 3 bracket play as the #4 team they played #5 Highland. They beat the Huskies again 25-18, 25-22.
Bosco scored first on a bad Highland serve. After Highland tied it, Wassmuth scored on a tip and Mager served 2 aces for a 4-1 lead. Bosco made it 10-4 after 2 kills by Seubert and an ace by Wassmuth.
Highland then cut the lead to 11-10 but a kill by Remacle, an ace by Beckman, 2 kills by Perrin and a kill by Mager made it 16-10.
Highland got within 3 but no closer. Mager took over the serve after a sideout kill by Perrin made it 18-14. An ace, 2 kills by Perrin and a tip by Wassmuth made it 22-14.
Highland scored 2 then missed a  serve. At 24-18 Seubert scored the set winning kill.
Bosco trailed much of the second set. They fell behind 1-3, rallied for a 5-3 lead on 2 aces by Perrin and a kill be Beckman. Highland then took a 6-10 lead and held the lead until 2 aces by Perrin gave Bosco a 15-14 lead. After a sideout, Wassmuth served an ace and Beckman scored 2 kills for an 18-15 lead. After 2 Highland points Seubert scored a sideout kill and then served and ace to make it 20-17.
Highland came back to tie but Seubert scored a kill. After Highland tied it at 21, Remacle scored a kill to give Bosco the lead for good. A kill by Perrin and an ace by Remacle made it 24-21. Highland fought off one match point before Perrin scored the match-winning point on a block.
They then faced #1 seeded Salmon River and played much better than they had in pool play but still lost 22-25, 17-25.
Bosco took a 2-0 lead on an ace by Remacle and a kill by Perrin. Salmon River then scored 4 straight but couldn’t shake the Patriots.
Bosco managed to tie it at 12 on back to back kills by Perrin. After a bad serve by each side, Perrin scored 2 more kills to give Bosco a 15-13 lead. Salmon River scored 3 straight but Bosco answered with 3 straight on a kill by Seubert, an ace by Perrin and a kill by Beckman.
Salmon River took the lead back at 19-20 but a kill each by Seubert and Mager and a block by Beckman made it 22-20.
A missed spike gave Salmon River the serve and they never gave it back.
In the second set Bosco scored the first point but that was their only lead of the set. Salmon River took a 4-10 lead but Bosco got back within 1 at 12-13 as Remacle, Seubert and Perrin each scored a kill.
It was still just a 2-point margin at 13-15 when Salmon River scored 5 straight points to create some separation. They went on to win the set by 8 and clinch a trip to the championship match.
Bosco then faced Nezperce in the third place match and lost 18-25, 6-25. Nezperce had lost to Timberline
Bosco scored first on a kill by Perrin. Nezperce then scored 4 straight. Bosco got back within 1 at 3-4 but Nezperce then outscored Bosco 1-8 for a 4-12 lead.
After 5 straight sideouts with Beckman scoring a tip to send herself to the service line it was 7-14. Beckman then served 5 straight to cut the deficit to 2. She had 2 aces and Perrin scored 3 kills.
Nezperce answered with 4 straight points to push their lead to 6 and Bosco was unable to get any closer than 4, at 15-19, the rest of the game.
Bosco scored first in the second set on a bad serve by Nezperce but then gave up 6 straight points.
At 5-10, Nezperce scored a sideout and then scored 9 straight at the service line to take full control. Bosco’s only point the rest of the match came on a joust at the net won by Beckman that made it 6-20.
Salmon River wound up beating Timberline for the championship.
