Lady Pirates win 1 of 2
The Prairie Lady Pirates volleyball team split a pair of league matches last week and competed in a tournament as well. On Tuesday, Sept. 23, they traveled to Kooskia where they defeated Clearwater Valley 25-19, 25-19, 19-25, 27-25. Then on Thursday, Sept. 25, they traveled to Lapwai and were swept 14-25, 22-25, 22-25.
At C.V.
In the match at C.V., Prairie managed to prevail in 4 games despite 23 missed serves. Of course it helped that C.V. missed 25 serves. Beka Schumacher pushes the ball over at C.V. Also shown is Kylee Riggers.
Prairie jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set on 2 kills by Kylie Schumacher, an ace by Kennedy Riener and a kill by Beka Schumacher.
After 2 points by C.V., Beka scored another kill and Kylie served an ace to make it 7-3. After a sideout by C.V. Prairie got a kill each from Kylie and Beka Schumacher and Sierra Oliver to make it 10-4.
After an ace by Beka Schumacher and a kill by Kennedy Riener, Prairie had a 13-6 lead. C.V. got back within 5 but 2 aces by Avery Riener made it 18-10.
C.V. got within 6 at 23-17 then missed a served to get Prairie to set point. A kill and an ace by C.V. staved off the first two set point chances before Kennedy Riener scored the set-winning kill.
Prairie took a 2-0 lead in the second set on a pair of kills by Kylie Schumacher before a missed serve. After a missed C.V. serve Kylie scored on a block and Kennedy Riener served an ace. Beka Schumacher then scored a kill to make it 6-1.
C.V. then rallied back to take a 9-12 lead before Avery Riener scored a sideout kill. After a pair of sideouts, Kylie Schumacher scored a pair of kills that tied it at 13. After a sideout and a missed C.V. serve, Kennedy Riener served 2 aces to put Prairie back on top 16-14 before missing a serve. Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill then Beka Schumacher scored a kill and Kylie served 2 aces to make it 20-15.
After trading missed serves, Mia Anderson served an ace to make it 22-16. Five straight sideouts ensued, 3 on missed serves that left Prairie on top at 24-19. Kylie Schumacher then scored the set winning kill.
In the third set each side bricked a serve to open the set. Out of the first 12 points scored, 11 came on sideouts leaving score knotted at 6-6. An ace by Kylee Riggers made it 7-6 but C.V. answered with 2 straight points. A slam by Kylie Schumacher tied it and sent Avery Riener to the service line. Kennedy Riener scored 2 kills and Avery served 3 aces for a 13-8 lead.
C.V. then rallied back to take a 14-17 lead.
Prairie cut it to 16-17 on a kill and then an ace by Kylie Schumacher. C.V. then scored 5 straight points to take a 16-22 lead before a bricked serve ended their run. Each side then missed a serve before Beka Schumacher served an ace to make it 19-23. A net violation against Prairie gave C.V. a set point chance and they came through with the winner.
C.V. looked to capitalize on their momentum by scoring the first two points of the fourth set and then taking a 2-8 lead. After a plethora of sideouts with many being bricked serves, Prairie trailed 15-20 after a net serve by C.V. Harlee hanson then served 3 straight points with Kylie Schumacher scoring 2 kills and Kennedy Riener adding 1 to make it 18-21.
After a C.V. sideout, Kennedy Riener scored a sideout kill sending her sister Avery to the service line. An ace and 2 kills by Kylie Schumacher gave Prairie a 22-21 lead.
C.V. tied it on a net violation and took the lead on an ace. Anderson scored a sideout kill to tie it and Beka Schumacher scored a kill to get to match point. C.V. fought off that match point and served an ace to get to set point. They then sent a serve long to tie it at 25. Kylie Schumacher served an ace to get another match point chance and a net violation on C.V. gave Prairie the match winner.
Kylie Schumacher had 18 kills, including block, plus 6 assists and 6 aces. Beka Schumacher had 12 kills and 2 aces. Kennedy Riener had 7 kills, 1 assist and 7 aces. Avery Riener had 3 kills, 16 assists and 6 aces. Anderson had 3 kills, 10 assists and 1 ace. Oliver had 2 kills. Hansen had 1 kill and 1 ace. Capri Hagen had 5 assists and Riggers had 1 ace.
Prairie won the JV match 25-14, 25-20, 15-12.
Prairie never trailed in the opening set as a kill by Tinley Hibbard and an ace by Faith Cash made it 2-0. Hibbard served 2 aces to make it 7-3.
A kill by Alli Rambo scored a sideout to make it 10-6 and then Zoey Behler served 6 straight points. She had 4 aces while Rambo added 2 more kills to make it 16-6.
C.V. then put a run together to pull within 3 at 16-13 before Prairie scored a sideout. Macie Uhlenkott then served 5 straight, 4 of them aces with Halee Rowland adding a kill, for a 22-13 lead.
After a sideout each way, Cash served 2 aces to end the set.
Cash then served the first 6 points of the second set with 3 aces plus 2 kills by Erica Schlader and a kill by Rambo.
After a sideout, Rowland, Cash and Rambo each scored a kill to make it 9-1.
Prairie held the lead through the middle of the set and led 22-12 after a kill by Hibbard. C.V. then scored a sideout kill and got 6 aces in a row to cut the margin to just 3 at 22-19. 3 straight bricked serves led to a match point by Prairie at 24-20. Cash then served an ace to win the set and the match.
In the third set C.V. took an early 1-3 lead, their first lead of the match. They held on to the lead until Prairie tied it at 8 after 2 aces by Bekah Shears. C.V. then scored 3 straight to retake the lead before Prairie got a sideout kill by Grace Kaschmitter.
Kenly Forsmann then went the service line and served 5 straight aces to end the match.
At Lapwai
By beating Prairie, Lapwai gained a split in the season series as Prairie had beaten the Wildcats in a home match earlier in the season.
The first set started with Kylie Schumacher and Riggers each scoring a kill for a 2-0 lead. Riggers added another kill for a 3-1 lead.
After an ace by Riggers made it 5-2, Lapwai turned things around. They scored the sideout and then served 6 straight to take a 5-9 lead.
Prairie was able to rally back within 1 at 10-11 after an ace by Oliver. A kill by Avery Riener again cut the margin to 1 at 11-12.
Oliver was serving for the first time this season as Kennedy Riener wasn’t available to play and Oliver basically filled her serving spot.
Lapwai then scored the sideout and the next 9 points to take control of the set as they went on to win by 11.
In the second set Lapwai scored first. Prairie took their first lead at 3-2 after a kill by Riggers and an ace by Kylie Schumacher.
They led again by 1 at 4-3 on a kill by Beka Schumacher and 5-4 after a bad Lapwai serve. However, Lapwai then went on a 1-7 scoring run to take a 6-11 lead.
Prairie got back within 2 at 10-12 but couldn’t until very late in the match. At 18-22, Hagen tipped the ball over on second touch for a sideout. Oliver then served Prairie to a tie at 22-22 with Kylie Schumacher and Riggers each scoring a kill and Oliver adding an ace.
However she then got too strong with a serve and Lapwai then scored the final points to win the set.
In the final set Riggers scored a kill for a 1-0 lead. They led 2-1 after a bad Lapwai serve then Lapwai scored a sideout and took a 2-5 lead.
Lapwai held the lead until Prairie tied it at 11 after 3 straight aces by Oliver. They couldn’t take the lead though as Lapwai scored the next 3 points.
Prairie was able to tie the score again at 14, 15, 16 and 19 but couldn’t take a lead.
Finally after a kill by Beka Schumacher tied it at 20, then a kill by Kylie Schumacher gave prairie a 21-20 lead. However that was their final lead of the night as Lapwai took back the lead.
Prairie tied it at 22 on a kill by Kylie Schumacher but Lapwai then scored the final 3 points of the match.
For the match Kylie Schumacher had 10 kills and 2 aces. Beka Schumacher had 9 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Riggers had 5 kills and 2 aces. Avery Riener had 4 kills, 15 assists and 2 aces. Anderson had 3 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Hagen had 2 kills and 10 assists. Hansen had 1 kill and 1 assist. Oliver had 2 assists and 5 aces. Shears had 1 assist.
Prairie is now 4-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.
The JV team defeated Lapwai, 25-21, 25-9, 13-15.
