Museum to hold free lecture Oct. 16
The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude will
hold a free lecture in October. Light refreshments are provided, and
the event is free and open to the public. It will be held in the
Johanna Room at Spirit Center at the Monastery of St. Gertrude at 465
Keuterville Road, Cottonwood, Idaho. October 16, 3:00 p.m. In Selway Shadows – the Last Flight of 148Z Presented by Richard Holm, Jr. On June 11, 1979, the US Forest Service endured its deadliest aviation disaster when a DC-3 with 12 people aboard crashed near Moose Creek Ranger Station. Cottonwood’s Bryant Stringham was one of two who survived. Holm spent eight years researching and writing this book. His presentation will include detailed information on the flight, possible causes, people, rescues and recovery, as well as many unique “happenstance” moments. Books will be available to buy after the presentation as the museum gift shop. Richard Holm, Jr.is a fourth-generation Idahoan who holds a commercial pilot license with a multi-engine instrument rating and many hours of backcountry flying. He is an outdoorsman with an abiding interest in Idaho history and has written other books about fire lookouts and backcountry flying. He lives in McCall, Idaho, with his wife Amy and their two children. The Historical Museum at St. Gertrude is a ministry of the Center for Benedictine Life.
