To the Library and Beyond
Prairie Community Library, Inc. – Your nonprofit, all-volunteer source.
The October meeting of the board of directors of Prairie Community Library, Inc. has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 16 at 10 AM in the Library.
Be sure to drop by the Library to check out all the wonderful recent additions to our collection.
Carissa Jones became a Director on the Board in 2020 and was already contributing much to Story Hour and the children’s library.  In October of 2023, when we were faced with the daunting task of removing every book and every shelf from our library space, Carissa volunteered to take charge of the entire move.  She did so with spectacular success thanks to help from her family, many Church friends, and a few high school seniors.  Carissa and her family have generously provided parade entries for the Library.  She continues to personally manage weekly Story Hour and the annual Summer Reading Program with her exceptional creative genius.  This year, she and Frances Conklin teamed up to create a memorable concert picnic.  Thank you, Carissa.  You teach us all that “You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give.”
Michele has reviewed the 2019 book, My Friend Anna- the True Story of a Fake Heiress, by Rachel DeLoache Williams [an American writer, photographer and editor].  This book is about a woman named Anna Delvey aka Anna Sorokin who conned the author.  Anna called herself a “German heiress.”  She would tell Rachel that she would pay her back, but she never did.  This book explains how Rachel was conned, and how Anna got caught.  Rachel lost almost $70,000 within six months.
Sunday 12 October is National Farmer’s Day.  Monday 13 October, we celebrate Columbus Day, Indigenous Peoples Day and the birthday of the United States Navy.
Our statistics for September 2025 reveal that we set new records with the following: 362 total items loaned; 270 children’s items loaned; 264 customers; 201 new items added to library collection; and 14 times we provided information as requested.
The volunteers who manage and operate Prairie Community Library are committed to seeking partners and projects that complement our mission of serving the literary needs of our communities, and our purpose of growing an ever-better library.
Send your volunteer message to cottonwoodlib@gmail.com.  “Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain loving one another.”  Please recommend improvements to the Library’s direction, priorities and customer service.  Thank you all!
