Lady Pirates have busy week Prairie had a busy week in volleyball with 3 league matches, 1 non-league match and a tournament. On Tuesday, Sept. 30 they hosted Kendrick and Grangeville. They defeated Kendrick in a league match 25-11, 25-18, 25-19 then lost to Grangeville in a non-league match 15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 19-25. On Thursday, Oct. 2, they traveled to Troy and were swept 15-25, 8-25, 16-25. On Saturday, Oct. 4, they traveled to Genesee for the Pea & Lentil Tournament where they lost to Kamiah in 2 sets (no scores available), beat Pomeroy in 3 sets (no scores available) and beat Grangeville in 3 sets 25-27, 25-22, 15-5 in pool play to finish second in their pool. In bracket action they lost to eventual champion Genesee 11-25, 13-25 to finish in a tie for third at the tournament with Wallace who lost to runner-up Kamiah in the other semi-final. Finally on Monday, Oct. 6, they hosted Troy and lost 25-20, 13-25, 8-25, 11-25. Vs. Kendrick In the opening set of the
league match against Kendrick, the Tigers scored the first point then
Kylie Schumacher scored a sideout kill. Avery Riener then served 6 aces and added a second touch kill for an 8-1 lead.An ace by Sierra Oliver made it a 10-2 lead. Beka Schumacher added 2 aces to make it 15-6. Avery Riener served 2 more aces to make it 20-8. A sideout kill by Mia Anderson and an ace by Kylie Schumacher made it 24-10. After a missed serve, Kendrick missed their own serve to give Prairie the set. The second set started out back and forth. A sideout free ball by Avery Riener gave Prairie a 5-4 lead. A kill each by Avery Riener and Harlee Hansen made it 7-4 and an ace by Beka Schumacher made it 8-4. Prairie kept the lead at 2-4 points until a kill by Kylie Schumacher sent Sierra Oliver to the service line at 13-9. Oliver served 5 aces and Kylie Schumacher added a kill to make it 19-9. Kendrick however answered right back with 9 straights points to get within 1 at 19-18. A block by Anderson finally ended their run. Kylie Schumacher then served out the set for Prairie. She had 2 aces while Oliver had a back row kill and Beka Schumacher had 2 kills including the set winner. Kendrick took a 1-5 lead in the third set. Prairie didn’t take their first lead until Kylie Schumacher went back to serve after a bricked serve by Kendrick that made it 3-6. A tip by Anderson, 3 aces by Kylie and a kill by Beka Schumacher made it 8-6. Kendrick came right back with 5 straight to retake the lead at 8-11. Prairie was able to tie the score at 11 after 2 aces by Anderson and again at 13, 14 and 15. A block by Kylie Schumacher gave Prairie a brief lead at 16-15. After Kendrick tied it again, another blocky by Kylie put the Pirates back on top. Oliver added 2 aces and Kylie a kill to make it 20-16. After 2 sideouts, Kylie Schumacher served an ace to make it 22-17. After 3 more sideouts, a kill and then an ace by Beka Schumacher gave Prairie the match. Kylie Schumacher had 11 kills, including 2 blocks, with 2 assists and 8 aces. Beka Schumacher had 9 kills and 5 aces. Avery Riener had 4 kills, 12 assists and 8 aces. Anderson had 4 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces. Kennedy Riener had 4 kills and 2 assists. Oliver had 2 kills, 2 assists and 8 aces. Kylee Riggers had 1 kill and 1 assist. Hansen had 1 kill and Capri Hagen had 10 assists. Vs. Grangeville In the match against
Grangeville Prairie took a 2-1 lead on a kill by Avery Riener and a
block by Kylie Schumacher. However that was their only lead of the
first set. Grangeville scored 2 straight to take the lead. Prairie tied
it at 3 and again at 4 but Grangeville then took the lead for good.
They open up the lead with a 2-11 run to 7-18. A free ball by Tori Shears then scored a sideout and Avery Riener served 3 aces and Anderson added a kill to make it 12-18. Grangeville then scored the sideout and the next 3 points to take a 10-point lead. Prairie was able to sideout a few times but couldn’t get any closer than 9 as they wound up losing the set by 10. Avery Riener served Prairie to a 4-0 lead in the second set with 4 straight aces. However Grangeville then scored the next 7 points. Prairie was able to retake the lead at 14-13 after 2 aces by Beka Schumacher but Grangeville then took back the lead and held off the Pirates the rest of the set. In the third set Oliver scored on a free ball and Avery Riener served Prairie to a 5-0 lead. She had an ace while Kylie Schumacher had 2 blocks and Anderson added a kill. An ace by Oliver made it 7-1. After 2 Grangeville points, a kill by Beka Schumacher, a tip by Riggers and an ace by Kylie Schumacher made it 10-3. Prairie was able to hold Grangeville at bay the rest of the set as the Bulldogs got no closer than 3 the rest of the set. Avery Riener wound up scoring the set winning kill. 2 aces aby Avery gave Prairie a 2-0 lead in the fourth set. Grangeville came back and took their first lead at 3-4. A kill by Avery Riener and an ace by Kylie Schumacher put Prairie back on top but Grangeville then took control with 6 straight points. Prairie was able to rally back to a tie at 11 after 2 aces by Beka Schumacher. Grangeville then scored the next 4 points and Prairie never got closer than 2 the rest of the set as Grangeville went on to win the match. Beka Schumacher had 12 kills in the match, including a block plus 5 aces. Kylie Schumacher had 10 kills, including 4 blocks, plus 3 assists and 5 aces. Anderson had 6 kills, 4 assists and 2 aces. Avery Riener had 4 kills, 13 assists and 11 aces. Riggers had 4 kills, including 2 blocks. Oliver had 3 kills, 3 assists and 3 aces. Hagen had 1 kill and 6 assists. Lentil Tournament at Genesee with a loss in 2 straight sets to Kamiah.
They followed with a 2 sets to 1 win over Pomeroy and then faced
Grangeville for second place in the pool, winning 25-27, 25-22, 15-5. During
the early pool play matches they lost Kylie Schumacher to an injury. As
a result Zoey Behler got her first extended varsity playing time.The match against Grangeville started like the match on Tuesday at Cottonwood. Grangeville led nearly the entire first set, leading by as much as 15 at 6-21. At that point Riggers scored a block and Prairie started a rally. Behler scored on a free ball and Oilver served an ace. After a pair of sideouts, Behler scored another kill and Avery Riener added 2 aces to get within 13-22. After a Grangeville sideout, Kennedy Riener scored a kill and Behler followed with an ace. Beka Schumacher and Avery Riener each added a kill to cut the deficit to 6 at 17-23. Grangeville scored a sideout but then bricked a serve. Kennedy Riener then served Prairie into a 25-24 lead. She had 3 aces while Beka Schumacher scored 4 kills. Grangeville finally got her off the service line with a sideout and was able to score 2 more to win the set. Grangeville then jumped out toa 1-4 lead in the second set. Prairie fought back to a 5-5 tie only to have Grangeville surge back to a 6-11 lead. At 12-18, Prairie started their comeback. Beka Schumacher scored a backrow kill and Behler went to the service line. A block by Anderson, a net violation on Grangeville and a kill by Beka Schumacher cut the deficit to 16-18. After a sideout by Grangeville, Oliver scored a back row kill and Kennedy Reiener went to the service line at 17-19. A kill by Anderson, a block and a kill by Beka Schumacher and an ace by Riener put Prairie up 21-19. After a Grangeville sideout, a kill and than an ace by Anderson made it 23-20. Grangeville scored 2 straight before serving into the net to give Prairie a 24-22 lead. Behler than sent a spike down the left sideline for the set winner. In the deciding third set, Behler scored the first kill but 4 sideouts followed. Anderson scored a kill to put Kennedy Riener back on the service line. She kept up her strong serving as she served Prairie to a 12-2 lead. She had 3 aces while Beka Schumacher had a block and 2 kills, Anderson had a block and Riggers added a kill. Grangeville broke the run with a sideout but a kill by Anderson made it 13-3. After another Grangeville sideout Beka Schumacher made it 14-4 with a tip. Grangeville scored one last sideout before Beka Schumacher scored the match winning kill from the back row. Beka Schumacher had 13 kills including 2 blocks plus 2 assists and 1 ace in the match. Anderson scored 10 kills including 2 blocks with 2 assists and 1 ace. Behler scored 7 kills and 1 ace. Kennedy Riener scored 3 kills, including a block with 1 assist and 8 aces. She serve 21 of Prairie’s 65 points in the match. Avery Riener had 2 kills, 23 assists and 3 aces. Riggers had 2 kills including a block. Oliver had 1 kill, 1 assist and 1 kill. Hansen had 1 block. Hagen had 3 assists and Shears had 2 assists. In the championship semifinal Prairie ran into an always tough Genesee squad. Genesee jumped out to a 1-5 lead in the first set. Prairie was able to get back within 2 at 7-9 and 9-11 but Genesee then outscored Prairie 2-12 to take an 11-23 lead. Beka Schumacher scored 2 kills and Avery Riener served 2 aces to get Prairie back within 8 but Genesee then scored the final 2 points to win the set. In the second set Avery Riener served Prairie to a 3-0 lead as Beka Schumacher, Behler and Kennedy Riener each scored a kill. Genesee came back to take a 4-5 lead. Prairie tied it at 5 and again at 6 but Genesee then scored 3 straight to take the lead for good. Prairie got within 2 at 12-14 after 2 aces by Avery Riener and 2 kills by Behler. Genesee then outscored them 1-11 the rest of the set to win the match. A block by Anderson was Prairie’s only point in that final run. Beka Schumacher had 6 kills and 1 assist in the match. Behler had 5 kills and 1 assist. Avery Riener had 3 kills, 5 assists and 4 aces. Kennedy Riener had 2 kills and 1 assist. Anderson had 1 block, 3 assists and 1 ace. Riggers had 1 block. Hagen had 2 assists and Oliver had 1 assist. Vs. Troy The opening set against Troy saw
strong play by the Pirates. They fell behind 0-3 but came back with a
kill by Kylie Schumacher and 3 aces by Oliver to take the lead at 4-3. Troy tied it at 6 but a kill and then an ace by Anderson made it 8-6. Troy took the lead at 8-9 but a free ball by Kylie Schumacher tied it and Beka Schumacher served an ace for the lead. Riggers then scored a kill to make it 11-9. Troy again took the lead at 12-13 before a kill by Kennedy Riener and 2 aces by Avery Riener put the Pirates back on top at 15-13. Troy was able to tie it at 15, 16, and 17 but was never able to retake the lead. After a missed serve by Troy made it 21-19, Kennedy Riener and Kylie Schumacher each scored a kill to make it 23-19. After each side missed a serve it was 24-20. Kylie Schumacher then scored a block to win the set. In the second set Prairie fell behind 0-5 and had scored twice to make it 2-6 when Anderson had her leg give way coming down from a play at the net. Her parents had to take her to the hospital and that seemed to put on damper on Prairie’s play the rest of the evening. It also threw off their rotation as Hagen, who switched off with Anderson back row-front row, now had to play the whole circuit, something she hadn’t done yet this season. Prairie fell behind 3-11 before battling to sideout Troy’s serves. They also couldn’t score on their own serves. Troy was able to pick up a point here and there on serve and built at 7-20 lead. Prairie kept Troy from scoring on serve the rest of the way but could only score 1 point on their serve, an ace by Avery Riener. In the third ser Prairie took a 4-2 lead on a kill and a block by Kylie Schumacher and 2 aces by Oliver. Troy then put together 6 straight points to retake the lead and dominated the rest of the set, outscoring Prairie 3-23 the rest of the way. The fourth set saw Prairie fall behind 2-13 and 3-16. They trailed 6-21 when Kennedy Riener scored on a cross court spike. Hansen then served 3 straight points to get to 10-21 but that was Prairie’s last rally. For the match Kylie Schumacher had 10 kills including 3 blocks with 1 assist and 1 ace. Beka Schumacher had 8 kills and 1 ace. Kennedy Riener had 6 kills and 1 assist. Avery Riener had 3 kills, 11 assists and 4 aces. Anderson had 3 kills, 1 assists and 2 aces in a little more than 1 set. Hagen had 2 kills and 11 assists. Riggers had 2 kills and 2 assists. Oliver had 1 assist and 6 aces. Hansen had 1 ace. Prairie is now 5-8 overall and 5-6 in league play. This time Prairie won the JV match 25-23, 25-18, 9-15. Prairie fell behind 4-7 early but came back to tie it at 7 and again at 8. After a bricked serve by Troy tied it at 8, Tinley Hibbard served Prairie into the lead. Alli Rambo scored a kill then Hibbard served 3 aces to make it 12-8. After a sideout, Behler scored a kill and Faith Cash served an ace to make it 14-9. Troy came back to tie it at 15 but Prairie took back the lead on a kill by Rambo and an ace by Macie Uhlenkott. Troy took the lead at 18-19 but a kill by Hibbard and an ace by Behler put Prairie back on top. After Troy tied it at 20, a kill each by Bekah Shears and Halee Rowland made it 22-20. After a Troy sideout, Rambo scored a kill and then a block to get to set point at 24-21. Troy scored twice to get within 1 before hitting one too long to give Prairie the set. Cash served an ace to open the second set. After a sideout, Rowland and Rambo each scored a kill to give Prairie a 3-1 lead. Troy came back to take leads or 5-6 and 6-7 before bricking a serve. 2 kills by Hibbard, a kill by Rowland and an ace by Behler gave Prairie an 11-7 lead. Troy again came back to take the lead at 11-12. A kill by Rowland, 2 aces by Hibbard and a kill be Rambo put Prairie back on top 15-12. Prairie held the lead the rest of the set. At 19-17 Erica Schlader scored a kill and Rambo went to the service line. A kill by Audrey Warren, 2 aces by Rambo and another kill by Warren had Prairie at match point at 24-17. Troy scored a sideout but then Schlader won it with a kill. In the third set Prairie never held the lead and only tied it twice at 8-8 and 9-9 as Troy salvaged a set. Prairie trailed 4-8 when Blake Uhlenkott scored a sideout kill and then went to the service line. A kill each by Mikayla Rowland and Molly Fowler and an ace by Blake tied it at 8.
