Students participate in 30-Hour Fast
By Sarah Walsh On September 20th at 3:00 AM, seven students and four adults, including myself, began our Annual 30-Hour Fast in Ferdinand. The students participated in competitions, built cardboard homes to sleep in, designed t-shirts, made a craft to sell, and listened to two guest speakers. The weekend was very busy, and the students did so well in their sacrifices for the less fortunate. This year we decided to raise money for a charity that is more local, Catholic Charities of Idaho. The students received donations from sponsors, community members, and sold keychains that they made during the event. I’m happy to say that the students raised $937.83 for this charity. The sacrifice of fasting and the students' time to reflect on how blessed we are in our community and our country was wonderful. I’d like to personally thank all the students who made this event a priority, and I know it was truly a valuable experience for them. I would also like to thank Levi Wassmuth, Glenn Parmantier, and Gerry Parmantier for their help with this event. Without their help, this event would not have been possible. A big thank you also goes out to Kari Holman and Kristin Wemhoff for coming in to share their experiences doing mission work in Kenya and Jamaica. Both speakers did an excellent job, and the kids were impacted by what they heard. ![]() ![]() Students building their cardboard shelters for the 30-Hour Fast. ![]() Students listen to guest speakers as part of the 30-hour fast.
