To the Library and Beyond We hope everyone has enjoyed early October so far before the cooler weather arrived! However, the cold temperatures are about here now, and the library will be a good warm place to hang out and enjoy your reading! For the end of the month, Prairie Community Library is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest. This is for everyone who likes to decorate/paint pumpkins and not carve them. Everyone is welcome to participate, and prizes will be awarded for the most creative design, the spookiest one, and the most technical one. The pumpkin submissions are due in the library by October 27th. So have fun decorating, and bring your pumpkins in! Joan’s book review this week is for the book titled “Idaho Wildlife Viewing Guide”. This is a book in the Watchable Wildlife Series published by Watchable Wildlife, Inc., a nonprofit organization working with communities and state and federal wildlife agencies. According to the author, “Our Viewing Guide series is a continent-wide effort to meet the needs of North America’s growing wildlife-viewing public. The guides encourage people to observe wildlife in natural settings, and provide them with information on where to go, and what to expect when they get there”. The book divides Idaho into seven wildlife viewing regions, with 100 different locations. Each location has a description and viewing information which lists all the wildlife species that can be seen at that location. For each location there are additional site notes giving readers useful information about the spot. There are several great scenic photos of the different areas in Idaho, as well as many pictures of the wildlife. For birders and other wildlife observers, this will be a very helpful book. The library continues to emphasize our collection of Idaho and Pacific Northwest books. We have a great selection of nonfiction and fiction books by Idaho or Pacific NW authors and/or about the area. These include history books and many others about our state and the Pacific Northwest. So, if you’re interested in learning more about our area, please come in and take a look at these books!
