Farming forum set for Grangeville Oct. 15 Farming in north central Idaho already faces unpredictable weather and rough terrain, but recent changes in federal policies are also affecting farming in the region. A panel of experts will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about how recent changes are affecting our communities, our neighbors and their livelihood at “Growing Our Understanding: What’s Happening to Farming in Idaho?” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Grangeville Super 8 Motel conference room. The forum is sponsored by the North-Central Idaho Democratic Coalition. All are welcome and refreshments will be served. The event will begin with a panel discussion followed by a question-and-answer session. Panelists include Britany Marchant, Executive Director of the Idaho Wheat Commission; Ken Hart, retired Lewis County extension educator and Weippe-area farmer; and Colby Field, University of Idaho extension agricultural economist. The three panelists will speak about recent changes such as reductions in USAID and SNAP, trade agreements and tariffs and more. The coalition, composed of Democrats in Lewis, Nez Perce, Idaho, and Clearwater counties, has as its goal to “inform the public and gather information from our rural communities about how governmental actions at the state and national levels are affecting all of us.” Their slogan is “Looking Beyond Differences and Finding Common Ground.” Coalition members strongly believe the future of farming depends on all of us, no matter what our political party, understanding the challenges we face and working together to find solutions. | COTTONWOOD
