Lady Pirates lose twice
The Prairie Lady Pirates played 2 league games this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 7, they traveled to Kamiah and lost 21-25, 13-25, 18-25 to the Kubs. On Monday, Oct. 13, they hosted Logos and got swept 19-25, 12-25, 18-25.
At Kamiah
Kamiah jumped out to leads of 0-2 and 1-4 in the first set. At 2-5 Beka Schumacher scored a sideout kill and Kylie Schumacher went back to serve. Avery Riener goes up for a spike at Kamiah.She served 7 straight points to give Prairie a 10-5 lead. She had 3 aces while Beka Schumacher had 2 kills plus a block and Kylee Riggers added a kill.
Prairie held on to the lead at a 2-4 point margin until a sideout by Kamiah that made it 20-18. Kamiah scored 3 straight aces to take the lead.
Prairie tied it on a kill by Kennedy Riener to make it 21-21 but Kamiah then scored the final 4 points to win the set.
Kamiah dominated the second set taking leads of 0-3, 2-7 and 5-16.
The lead stayed at 8-10 points until Kamiah scored the final 4 points to turn an 8 point lead into a 12-point win.
Kamiah again jumped out on top in the third set at 1-6.
Prairie fought back to get within 2 at 15-17 after 2 aces by Kennedy Riener and a block and a kill by Kylie Schumacher.
A kill by Riggers again cut the lead to 2 at 17-19.
Kamiah then outscored the Pirates 1-6 the rest of the set to win the match.
For the match Kylie Schumacher had 9 kills, including 4 blocks, plus 2 assists and 5 aces. Beka Schumacher had 8 kills including a block, plus an ace. Avery Riener had 4 kills, 7 assists and 1 ace. Kennedy Riener had 3 kills and 2 aces. Kylee Riggers had 3 kills. Capri Hagen had 1 kill, 8 assists and 1 ace. Sierra Oliver had 4 assists and 1 kill. Harlee Hansen had 1 kill. Tori Shears had 2 assists.
The JV team lost their match 21-25, 26-28, 9-15.
In the opening set they took a 2-0 lead on a missed Kamiah serve and an ace by Faith Cash.
Kamiah then answered with 5 straight points. Prairie got back within 1 at 5-6 on 2 kills by Tinley Hibbard and a kill by Alli Rambo. Kamiah then scored 5 straight and eventually led 9-16.
A kill by Hibbard put Cash at the service line. She served an ace while Halee Rowland and Cash each scored a kill to pull within 3 at 13-16.
At 15-18, Erica Schlader scored a kill and Hibbard served an ace to cut the deficit to 1 at 17-18.
They again got within 1 at 19-20 after 2 kills by Zoey Behler. Kamiah then scored 4 straight to get to set point. A kill by Rambo and a dig by Schlader got Prairie back within 3 before Kamiah scored the set winning point.
Prairie fell behind 0-11 and 1-14 in the second set. They were behind 3-15 when they started to rally back. A sideout kill by Hibbard sent Schlader to the service line. She had 2 aces and Hibbard added a kill to make it 7-15.
After a couple of sideouts, Hibbard and Rowland each scored 2 kills and Behler served an ace to cut the deficit to 14-16.
Later a sideout kill by Bekah Shears sent Cash to the service line. She served an ace to tie it and Rambo won a joust at the net to give Prairie their first lead of the set at 19-18.
After a sideout, Rambo scored 3 straight kills and Schlader added a kill to make it 23-19. Kamiah came right back with 5 straight to get to match point at 23-24.
Rambo scored a block and Schlader a kill to give Prairie a set point chance at 25-24. Kamiah scored 2 straight to make it 25-26 but Schlader scored on a dig to tie it. Kamiah then scored 2 straight to win the set and the match.
In the third set Cash served Prairie to a 3-0 lead with an ace and a kill each by Shears and Molly Fowler.
Kamiah then came back with 5 straight points. Prairie tied it at 5-5 on a missed serve and then a dig for a kill by Mikayla Rowland.
After a pair of sideouts, Kamiah scored 4 straight for a 6-10 lead. After missing a serve, Shears served 2 aces to get back within 1 at 9-10. Kamiah then scored the final 6 points to finish the match.
Vs. Logos
In between the Kamiah and Logos matches, head coach Alecia Hagen resigned as coach and also pulled her daughter Capri from the team. JV coach Madison Shears stepped up to finish the season as head coach. Also somewhere between those two matches Kylee Riggers injured her knee and was on crutches Monday evening.
Kylie Schumacher and Harlee Hansen go up to block a Logos spike on Monday.All that led to a new rotation as Beka Schumacher moved to middle with Hansen playing weak side and Zoey Behler playing Beka’s former outside hitter spot. Erica Schlader was brought up from the JV to be the second setter.
As you would expect there were some issues with getting used to each other on the floor.
Logos scored the first two points to start the match then Avery Riener scored a sideout kill and went back to serve. She served 2 aces and Kylie Schumacher scored a kill for a 4-2 lead. After 2 sideouts, Kennedy Riener scored a fill for a 6-3 lead.
Logos answered back and tied it at 6. A kill by Kylie Schuamcher made it 7-6 but Logos then scored 2 straight. After a tip by Avery Riener made it 8-8, Logos took the lead for good with 3 straight points.
Prairie trailed by as many as 7 at 14-21 then rallied back on a kill by Oliver, an ace by Kylie Schumacher and a block by Hansen to make it 18-21. Logos then outscored Prairie 1-4 the rest of the way.
In the second set Prairie tied it at 3-3 after falling behind 0-3 but never was able to take the lead. A block and a kill by Kylie Schumacher and an ace by Kennedy Riener tied it then Logos scored 12 of the next 13 points to take control of the set.
In the third set Prairie took an early 2-1 lead on a kill and then a block by Kylie Schumacher.
After Logos tied it a block by Kennedy Riener gave Prairie a 3-2 lead. Kennedy then served an ace to make it 4-2.
After 4 straight sideouts, a kill by Beka Schumacher made it 7-4.
Logos then came back to tie it at 7. A kill by Beka Schumacher and an ace by Oliver made it 9-7.
After an ace by Avery Riener and a slam by Kylie Schuamcher it was 13-10. Logos answered back and finally took the lead for good at 15-16. They went on to win the set by 7.
Kylie Schumacher had 13 kills, including 4 blocks with 1 assist and 2 aces. Avery Riener had 7 kills, 7 assists and 4 aces. Kennedy Riener had 6 kills, including a block and 2 aces. Beka Schumacher had 4 kills and 1 assist. Hansen had 2 blocks. Schlader had 1 kill and 8 assists. Oliver had 1 kill, 4 assists and 2 aces. Behler had 1 kill and 1 assist. Tori Shears had 2 assists.
The losses drop Prairie to 5-10 overall and 5-8 in league play with 1 league match left. They were to host C.V. on Senior Night Tuesday, Oct. 14.
Prairie also lost the JV match 18-25, 23-25.
They took a lead in the first set when Hibbard served 3 aces and Audrey Warren added a kill for a 9-4 lead. Prairie led 11-6 after an ace by Bekah Shears. Logos then cut the lead to 11-10 and eventually took the lead at 15-16.
After a kill by Hibbard tied it, Logos scored 6 straight points before bricking a serve. Alli Rambo scored a kill that turned out to be Prairie’s final point of the set.
In the second set Prairie fell behind but came back to take the lead when Bekah Shears served 3 aces and Warren scored 2 kills to make it 8-5.
Prairie mostly held the lead until late in the set. Logos took the lead at 16-17 but Prairie came back with a kill each by Warren and Halee Rowland and an ace by Warren to take a 21-18 lead.
Logos then scored the sideout and took a 21-23 lead. A kill by Hibbard made it 22-23 but Logos then scored a sideout. Logos bricked a serve to make it 23-24 but then scored the winning point. Since Logos won both games they didn’t play a third set.
Prairie also lost the C match 19-25, 25-21, 13-15.

They were weating purple as part of the Hits for Hospice fundraiser, the senior project of Lacey and Breanne Schwartz. It was a fundraiser for Syringa Hospice.
