Lady Pirates out in 2 at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates had a disappointing District Tournament as they were eliminated after just 2 matches. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, they lost to Kamiah 19-25, 11-25, 25-23 and 23-25. On Saturday, Oct. 17, they were eliminated by Logos in straight sets, 20-25, 20-25 and 24-26.
Vs. Kamiah
Prairie had beaten Kamiah two nights earlier at Cottonwood in straight sets but this time they couldn’t handle the Kubs’ Audrey Puckett, a junior hitter. Beka Schumacher makes a block against Kamiah at District. Also going for the block is Mia Anderson.
Early on the first set was played like a #4vs. #5 game should be as neither team led by more than 2 and the lead changed hands several times. Prairie tied it for the final time at 14-14 then Kamiah scored the next 6 points to finally create some separation.
A kill by Erica Schlader ended the run and Beka Schumacher served an ace to make it 16-20. 5 straight sideouts followed then Kamiah scored a kill to get to set point. Kennedy Riener answered with a sideout kill but Prairie’s ensuing serve found the net to end the set.
In the second set Prairie tied it at 6 on a free ball by Mia Anderson. Faith Cash served 2 aces for an 8-6 lead. After a Kamiah sideout, Riener scored a kill to set Schlader to the service line. An ace by Schlader and a kill be Riener made it 11-7.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, Kamiah then scored a sideout and Hailey Wilson served 17 straight points to give the second set to the Kubs.
Prairie fought off that collapse and came back with a kill by Schumacher and an ace by Riener for a 2-0 lead in the third set. After a pair of sideouts, Halee Rowland scored a pair of kills to make it 5-1.
Kamiah came back to tie it but a kill by Bekah Shears and a block and a kill by Schumacher made it 8-5.
Kamiah came back and took a 10-11 lead. Prairie responded with a 6-2 run to make it 16-13 as Tori Shears and Anderson each served an ace and Faith Cash, Schumacher and Rowland each scored a kill.
Prairie never trailed the rest of the set although Kamiah tied it twice, the last time at 23-all. At that point Riener scored a kill for the sideout and Schumacher scored the set winning kill.
In the fourth set the lead changed hands a couple of times with Prairie holding an 8-6 lead after a kill by Schumacher. Kaiah then scored 4 straight and held the lead until Prairie tied it at 15 on an ace by Zoey Behler. Kamiah scored a sideout then Riener scored back to back kills for a 17-16 lead by the Pirates. Kamiah took back the lead although Prairie tied it at 20, 21 and 22. A kill by Riener made it 23-22 in favor of the Pirates but Kamiah then scored the next 3 points to win the match.
Schumacher had 21 kills, including 5 blocks with 1 assist and 5 aces. Riener had 14 kills, including 2 blocks and 2 aces. Schlader had 6 kills and 1 ace. Rowland had 6 kills, including a block and 1 assist. Anderson had 2 kills, 30 assists and 2 aces. Bekah Shears had 2 kills and 3 assists. Cash had 1 kill, 7 assists and 3 aces. Behler had 2 aces and Tori Shears had 1 assist and 1 ace.
Vs. Logos
Prairie got off to a good start in their loser-out match against Logos on Saturday as Riener served them to a 4-0 lead with an ace followed by 3 kills from Schumacher. After that things went downhill for the Pirates. Logos came right back with a 1-8 run to take the lead and never gave it back.
After falling behind 7-13, the closest Prairie was able to get was 20-23 after 2 aces by Schlader. Logos then scored a sideout kill and served an ace to win the first set.
Prairie trailed in the second set until a block by Riener made it 6-8 and Cash went back to serve. Schlader and Riener each scored a kill and Cash served 2 aces for a 10-8 lead. Logos then scored 4 straight to retake the lead but a tip by Riener, a block by Schumacher and an ace by Riener made it 14-12.
Prairie led by 4 at 18-14 after 2 kills by Schumacher and a kill by Schlader. Their final lead of the set came at 19-18. Logos scored the next 4 for a 19-22 lead. Schlader scored a sideout kill but Logos answered and then served out the set for a 5-point win.
In the final set Prairie and Logos went back and forth with the lead changing hands several times. Neither team led by more than 2 points until 2 kills by Schumacher gave Prairie a 21-18 lead. Logos tied it at 22 but a kill each by Schumacher and Rowland made it 24-22 and it looked like Prairie might extend the match. However Logos then got the sideout and aced away the final 2 points to win the match and end Prairie’s season.
Schumacher had 29 kills, including 2 blocks with 1 assist and 1 ace to lead the Pirates. Schlader had 8 kills, 1 assist and 2 aces. Riener had 6 kills, including a block and 2 aces. Bekah Shears had 2 kills and 1 assist. Anderson had 1 kill and 28 assists. Rowland had 1 kill. Cash had 8 assists and 2 aces. Behler had 1 assist.
