Lady Pirates start season with 2 wins
The Prairie Lady Pirates started their
season with a pair of home victories. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, they hosted
Nezperce and won 53-35. On Wednesday, Nov. 19, they hosted Moscow and
pulled out a 48-44 win.
Vs. Nezperce Prairie got off to a
strong start against Nezperce as they scored the game’s first 12
points. Kylie Schumacher started the scoring a minute into the game
with a 3-point play. 20 seconds later she added a putback. Sage Elven made 2 free throws and Kylie added another putback. Hailey Hanson sank a 3 to make it 12-0 with 3:36 left in the opening quarter. ![]() Nezperce got on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws then Prairie closed out the quarter with a lay-up by Elven on an inbounds play and a free throw by Beka Schumacher for a 15-2 lead at the quarter break. Nezperce scored their first basket of the game to open the second quarter and Beka Schumacher answered with a shot in the lane. After another basket by Nezperce, Prairie went on a 9-0 run. Sydney Shears scored a lay-up. Erica Schlader scored in transition after a steal by Hanson. Hanson then drove for a lay-up and Kylie Schumacher sank a 3 to make it 26-6 with 5:21 left in the half. Nezperce managed to outscore Prairie 5-7 the rest of the half as Prairie got a lay-up from Kylie Schumacher and a 3 from Elven. Prairie led 31-13 at the half. Prairie opened the second half scoring with a putback by Kylie Schumacher and a basket on an inbounds play by Shears. Nezperce then put a mini-rally together, out scoring Prairie 2-7 with a putback by Elven being Prairie’s points. Prairie still led 37-20 then outscored Nezperce 8-4 with Kylie Schumacher scoring 6 of those 8 and Elven the other 2 for a 45-24 lead. Nezperce then scored the final 5 points of the quarter to cut Prairie’s lead to 45-39 after 3 quarters. A 3 by Nezperce opened the fourth quarter then the Pirates put together an 8-0 run. Beka Schumacher started it with a lay-up. A basket and then a 3 by Elven followed with Kylie Schumacher finishing the run with a free throw that made it 53-32 with 3:01 left in the game. Nezperce then scored the final 3 points. Kylie Schumacher scored 21 to lead the Pirates in scoring with Elven adding 16. Hanson and Beka Schumacher scoring 5 each with Shears scoring 4 and Erica Schlader 2. Prairie had a 31-23 edge on the boards with Kylie Schumacher making it a double-double with 10 boards. Shears and Hanson added 6 rebounds each. Elven had 4 steals while Shears and Hanson had 3 steal each and 4 assists each. Prairie was 22 for 44 from the field, 50%, and 5 for 16 at the line, 31%. Nezperce was 11 for 34 from the field, 32%, and 11 for 19 at the line, 58%. Prairie also won the 2-quarter JV game 39-17. Reagan Brannan got off to a hot start with 10 of Prairie first 12 points as they took a 12-2 lead. She started things with a 3. Nezperce scored then Prairie scored 9 straight. Kennedy Riener had a basket then Brannan scored the next 7 on a basket, a three and another basket. Each team added 4 points to close out the first quarter with Prairie up 16-6. Zoey Behler and Riener each had a basket for Prairie. Nezperce opened the second quarter with a free throw then Prairie scoring 12 straight points. Brannan, Riener and Alli Rambo each scored a basket then Tori Shears and Capri Hagen each scored a 3 for a 28-7 lead with 5:13 to play. Nezperce scored 4 straight then Prairie went on an 11-4 run. Blake Uhlenkott scored a free throw then Bekah Shears hit a 3. Hagen scored a putback to make it 34-11. After a Nezperce basket, Riener hit a 3. After another Nezperce basket, Lillian Rehder made a basket to make it 39-15 with 1:08 to play. Nezperce added a final basket. Brannan wound leading Prairie in both scoring and rebounding with 12 points and 5 boards. Riener scored 9 while Hagen scored 5. Tori and Bekah Shears scored 3 reach while Behler, Rehder and Rambo scored 2 each and Uhlenkott scored 1. Prairie outrebounded Nezperce 17-9. Riener and Behler each had 3 steals and Uhlenkott had 3 assists. The JV’s were 16 for 28 from the field, 57%, and 1 for 6 at the line, 17%. Nezperce was 8 for 17 from the field, 47%, and 1 for 4 at the line, 25%. Moscow The game against Moscow was a back and forth battle.Moscow won the tap and scored the game’s first basket. Prairie came back and tied it with a basket by Schlader. Prairie then took their first lead on a pair of free throws by Shears. Moscow then scored 6 straight to retake the lead. Prairie then put together their own run. Elven scored a free throw. Shears drove for a lay-up and then made a steal that led to a lay-up by Elven that put Prairie back on top. Elven added a free throw and Schlader scored after another steal by Shears to make it 12-8. After a basket by Moscow, Beka Schumacher scored a putback and Elven drove full-court for a lay-up to give Prairie a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Moscow outscored Prairie 3-8 in the first 2:30 of the second quarter to cut the lead to just 1 at 19-18. Prairie’s only points came on a free throw and a basket by Beka Schumacher. Prairie then pushed the lead back to 6 on a back-door lay-up by Elven and a 3 by Kylie Schumacher. After a basket by Moscow, Beka Schumacher scored again to make it 26-20 with 1:46 to play in the half. Moscow then scored the final 7 points of the half to take a 26-27 halftime lead. Prairie took back the lead with a 3 by Elven to open the third quarter. Shears followed with a lay-up on a feed from Schlader who had grabbed an offensive rebound. Moscow scored then Kyle Schumacher and Schlader each scored for a 35-29 lead. After a Moscow basket, Elven scored with 8 seconds left in the quarter. Moscow rushed the ball up the court and scored to make it 37-32 after 3 quarters. Beka Schumacher opened the fourth quarter by making 2 of 4 free throws. Moscow responded with a 2 and a 3 to pull within 2 at 39-37. Schlader made 2 free throws but Moscow answered to make it 41-39 with 4:20 to play. A steal by Elven led to a lay-up by Schlader to make it 43-39. Moscow then scored a 3 and added a 2 to take a 43-44 lead with 2:17 left in the game. The Bears wouldn’t score another point. Shears put Prairie on top with a jumper from the elbow with 1:23 to play. Shears added a free throw with 1:06 left. Hanson then made 2 of 4 free throws in the final 18 seconds to give Prairie a 4-point win. Elven led the scoring for Prairie with 13 points. Schlader added 10. Shears and Beka Schumacher scored 9 each. Kylie Schumacher scored 5 and Hanson 2. Prairie outrebounded Moscow 51-33. Kylie Schumacher led the team with 18 boards while Shears was also in double figures with 11. Hanson had 5 steals while Shears and Elven had 4 each. Schlader had 3 assists while Shears, Hanson and Beka Schumacher had 2 each. Prairie was 17 for 44 from the field, 39%, and 10 for 25 from the line, 40%. Moscow was 17 for 58 from the field, 29%, and 7 for 12 at the line, 58%. Moscow got called for a technical foul in the first quarter when they subbed in a player who was not listed in the scorebook. Prairie is 2-0 on the season. Prairie dominated the JV game as they won 43-10. Prairie jumped out to a 6-0 lead as Aubree Riener and Rehder each scored a free throw and then Riener and Tori Shears each added a basket. After a free throw by Moscow, Brannan scored on an inbounds play to make it 8-1 at the end of the first quarter. Prairie then outscored Moscow 21-0 in the second quarter to take a 29-1 halftime lead. Rehder scored 7 points in the quarter while Behler scored 5, Riener and Hagen 4 each and Uhlenkott 2. Moscow opened the third quarter with 2 free throws then Prairie scored 11 straight to take a 40-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Hagen scored 4 points, Behler hit a 3 and Brannan and Rambo added 2 each in the quarter. That invoked the running clock for the fourth quarter. Moscow outscored Prairie 3-7 in the final frame. They opened the quarter with a 3-pointer, their first basket of the game. Rehder then score a free throw. Moscow scored another basket then Hagen made 2 free throws before Moscow closed out the scoring with a final basket. Hagen led the JV in scoring with 10 points. Rehder scored 9. Behler and Riener added 7 each. Brannan scored 4 and Uhlenkott, Rambo and Tori Shears scored 2 each. Prairie outrebounded Moscow 51-25. Rambo led the Pirates with 9 rebounds while Behler added 8. Riener had 4 steals while Brannan, Rehder and Faith Cash had 3 each. Uhlenkott and Riener each had 3 assists. Prairie was 18 for 52 from the field, 35%, and 6 for 16 at the line, 38%.
