11 turn out for SJB girls basketball There are 11 players turned out this season for a very young St. John Bosco girls basketball. They lead by their lone senior, Savannah Perrin. There are 2 juniors on the squad, Miah Mager and Catherine Seubert. There are 4 sophomores: Madeline Wassmuth, Cece Remacle, Catherine Beckman and Brianne Nuxoll. Rounding out the squad are 4 freshmen. They are Bella Creta, Teagen Dieseldorff, Zoey Alm and Tess Goeckner. Remacle probably won’t see playing time until December due to a knee injury suffered at the District volleyball tournament. The team also has a new head coach this year as Gene Weckman takes over that spot. Susan Wassmuth returns as an assistant coach and Julia Wassmuth, who graduated this past spring from SJB, has also joined the team as an assistant coach. Lady Patriots start 3-0 The St. John Bosco Lady Patriots started their season with 3 straight wins. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, they traveled to Kooskia and defeated Clearwater Valley 55-38. On Thursday, Nov. 20, they played their first home and first league game and defeated Timberline 46-29. Finally on Saturday, Nov. 22, they hosted Logos and won 42-34. At C.V. The Lady Patriots had a dominant first half at C.V. as they built a 33-9 lead by halftime.They started out 6-0 as Savannah Perrin scored a pair of baskets and Catherine Seubert added another. After C.V. got on the board, Miah Mager and Catherine Beckman each checked in with a basket for a 10-2 lead. After C.V. scored 2 free throws, Bosco closed out the first quarter with a basket each by Perrin and Mager to take a 14-4 lead. Perrin scored to open the second quarter and C.V. answered. Bosco then scored 11 straight points to open up a 27-6 lead. Perrin scored 7 of those 11 points and Seubert and Beckman each added 2. C.V. broke their drought with 3:05 left in the half. Mager answered with a bank shot then C.V. scored a free throw. Bosco closed out the half with a lay-up each by Perrin and Brianne Nuxoll for a 33-9 halftime lead. Perrin had gone 8 for 8 from the field in the first half and scored 17 points. Madeline Wassmuth opened the second half scoring with a basket and then Perrin and Wassmuth each made a free throw for a 37-9 lead. C.V. then finally put a scoring run together as they scored 10 straight points but still trailed 37-19. Seubert broke the run with a putback and C.V. answered. Bosco then got a free throw and a basket from Mager and a free throw from Seubert for a 43-21 lead. C.V. hit a 3 in the finals seconds of the third quarter to make it 43-24. Mager started the fourth quarter scoring by putting back a missed free throw. C.V. answered then Perrin scored a lay-up. After another C.V. score, Mager scored a basket to make it 49-28 with 5:07 left. C.V. scored a basket and a free throw to get within 18 but Bosco answered with 6 straight points. Perrin and Seubert each scored on an inbounds play and then Seubert scored after making a steal to make it 55-31 with 2:25 left to play. C.V. scored the final 7 points of the game but still lost by 17. Perrin led the Patriots with 22 points while Mager scored 13 and Seubert 11. Beckman added 4 points while Wassmuth scored 3 and Nuxoll 2. The Patriots outrebounded the Rams 45-31. Mager and Seubert each had 9 to lead the team while Perrin had 8 and Nuxoll had 7. Perrin had 6 steal while Mager and Seubert each had 4. Mager also had 8 assists. The Patriots were 25 for 49 from the field, 51%, and 5 for 20 at the line, 25%. opener against Timberline, the Patriots trailed 8-9 after the first
quarter then took the lead with a dominant second quarter. They
outscored the Spartans 14-5 in the second to take a 22-14 lead at the
half.They were even more dominant in the third as they outscored Timberline 16-4 to take a 38-17 lead into the fourth. Timberline outscored them by 3 in the fourth. Beckman scored 11 to lead the Patriots in scoring with Wassmuth also in double figures with 10. Perrin scored 9, Seubert 8, Mager 4 and Teagen Dieseldorff 2. Vs. Logos In the game against Logos,
the Patriots built a 10-point halftime lead and then held off the
Knights in the second half to pick up the win.![]() Logos scored first but Mager answered to tie it. Logos again took the lead but Bosco then scored 6 straight to take the lead for good. Beckman started the run with a baseline shot and Mager added a basket to put the Patriots ahead. Seubert then added a putback to make it 8-4. After a basket by Logos, Perrin converted a 3-point play to make it 11-6. After another Logos basket, Seubert scored a basket and a free throw to make it 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. Mager and Perrin each scored to open the second quarter and give the Patriots a 10-point lead. Logos answered with 5 straight to cut the lead in half. Each team then traded scores with Perrin scoring twice for Bosco and Wasmuth adding a basket. Bosco gained a point in the exchange as one of Logos’ scores was a free throw. At 24-18, Bosco then scored the final 4 points of the half. Mager scored from just inside the 3-point line and Perrin and Seubert each added a free throw to make to make it 28-18 at the half. Logos opened the second half with a free throw and Mager responded with a basket from the side for an 11-point lead at 30-19. Logos then put a rally together as they scored 7 straight to cut Bosco’s lead to just 4 at 30-26. Dieseldorff ended the run with a free throw and Nuxoll followed up with a basket to push the lead back to 7. Twice Logos scored to get within 5 but Bosco responded with a putback by Dieseldorff and a lay-by Seubert as Bosco took a 37-30 lead into the fourth quarter. Dieseldorff opened the fourth quarter with another putback but Logos came back with a basket and a free throw to cut the lead to 6. Not long after that the Knights leading scorer, post player Elena Spillman, went out with an injury and that blunted any comeback attempts by Logos. Perrin made a free throw and Logos responded with a free throw to make it 40-34 with 4:20 left to play. The only scoring by either side in the final 4 minutes was a free throw each by Nuxoll and Beckman as Bosco held on to win by 8. Perrin was the Patriots’ leading scorer with 11 while Mager was also in double figures with 10 before fouling out. Seubert scored 8 while Dieseldorff scored 5. Beckman and Nuxoll scored 3 each and Wassmuth scored 2. Logos had a 42-47 edge on the boards. Seubert lead the Patriots with 12 rebounds while Perrin had a double-double with 10 rebounds. Wassmuth had 7 steals and 6 assists while Beckman had 4 steals and 3 assists. Bosco was 17 for 50 from the field, 34%, and 8 for 26 at the line, 31%. Logos was 12 for 46 from the field, 26%, and 10 for 28 at the line, 36%. Bosco is now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. Bosco lost the 2-quarter JV game 10-14. Each team scored just 2 points in the first quarter as Bosco was 1 for 9 and Logos was 1 for 8. Beckman had Bosco’s only points as she tied the scored on a drive to the hoop. In the second quarter, Logos scored 8 straight to take a 2-10 lead with 2:35 to play. Bosco than rallied back within 1 at 10-11. Wassmuth scored from the baseline and Dieseldorff stole the ball and scored to get within 4. After a Logos free throw, Nuxoll and Dieseldorff each scored to make it 10-11 with 1:10 left to play. That was it for the Patriots though as Logos scored a basket and a free throw while shutting out the Patriots in the final minute for the win. Dieseldorff scored 4 to lead the JV’s with Nuxoll, Beckman and Wassmuth each scoring 2. Logos had the rebounding edge at 15-23. Dieseldorff led Bosco with 8. Nuxoll had 4 steals and Wassmuth had the only assist. The JV were 5 for 22 from the field, 23%, and 0 for 2 at the line. Logos was 6 for 24 from the field, 25%, and 2 for 8 at the line, 25%.
