Smith named top surgeon
Dr. Paul Smith, Clearwater Valley Hospital’s general surgeon, has been selected by an independent Washington, DC, based research company as one of “America’s Top Surgeons.”
The Consumers Research Council of America evaluates professional services throughout America.  The selection process is based on a point value system that awards points to surgeons for education, years in practice, affiliations with professional associations and medical board certifications.
“Being selected as one of “America’s Top Surgeons” is quite an honor.  You are among a select few that have earned this prestigious recognition,” the announcement said.
Dr. Smith served for 23 years as a general and vascular surgeon at hospitals in Portland and Salem, Oregon.  He maintained a solo practice in Weiser for three years prior joining the CVHC staff in June, 2003.  He received his medical training at Cornell University, S.U.N.Y Upstate Medical Center, Oregon Health Sciences University and legacy Emanuel Health Center in Portland.
Dr. Smith specializes in general and vascular surgery.  He performs endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures including gall bladder removals, hernia repairs, mastectomies, lumpectomies, breast biopsies, stomach and colon surgeries.  He is a full time surgeon at Clearwater Valley  Hospital, Orofino, and is also credentialed at St. Mary’s Hospital, Cottonwood.
“We feel it is very important to have a surgeon serving this local area,” said Casey Meza, CEO, SMHC & CVHC.  “It allows people to have their pre and post operative care locally to avoid long commutes for them and their families when they require a surgical procedure.  It also allows them to remain in their local hospital and be seen during their recuperation by their family physician.”
