Pirates lose big at Troy
The Prairie Pirates got a rude welcome to 8-man football as the Troy Trojans scored on their first two offensive plays and rolled to a 0-50 win over the Pirates at Troy Friday, Sept. 3.Pirate defenders line up for a play.
The Trojans scored on their first 6 possessions in the first half as they rolled to a 0-44 lead at the half. They led 0-30 after the first quarter then pulled several of their starters.
The Pirates meanwhile couldn’t get anything going on offense. Their first possession they came up short on a fourth and 1 but then couldn’t come anywhere close to first down yardage until late in the half.
Prairie finally broke across the midfield stripe late in the half when Kelby Wilson returned the kickoff after Troy took their 0-44 lead for 33 yards to the Troy 48.
Prairie then picked up their lone first down. Nick Johnson gained 7 yards on first down and after Ryan Osterbuhr and Ryan Daly each picked up a yard, Wilson picked up 5 on fourth down. Prairie moved down to the Troy 30 yard line before turning the ball over on downs.
On Troy’s first possession of the second half, the defense forced a fumble and Wilson recovered at the Prairie 25.

Troy took over at their own 46 and on the next play ended the game on the 45-point mercy rule with a 54 yard pass play with 7:52 left in the third quarter.
Prairie wound up gaining just 11 total yards in the game with Wilson rushing 9 times for 9 yards. Starting quarterback Mat Forsmann was sacked 4 times and wound up with negative yardage.
Wilson took over at quarterback in the second quarter and had the only pass completion, a 3-yard gain to James Hood.
Combined, Prairie quarterbacks were 1 for 6 for 3 yards.
Troy rolled up 313 total yards, 157 rushing and 156 passing.
Defensively Wilson had 4 unassisted tackles, 2 assists and a fumble recovery while Tim Russell had 5 unassisted tackles before leaving the game with a leg injury. Forsmann had 3 unassisted tackles and 1 assist and Clark Tacke had 1 unassisted tackle and 2 assists.
Prairie’s home opener is this Friday as they face Clearwater Valley in a non-league game.
