Pirates finish winless season
The Prairie football team closed out a winless season with a 24-74 loss to Timberline Friday, Oct. 29 at Cottonwood.Phil Henry picks up some of his season high 97 yards.
On the plus side the Pirates had their best offensive output of the season as they scored 4 touchdowns in the game and Phil Henry rushed for a season high 97 yards on 14 carries.
Timberline got a big return on the opening kickoff and scored in just 3 plays to take a 0-8 lead in the game.
Henry got Prairie off to a good start as he went for 25 yards on the Pirates first play from scrimmage but then the offense stalled.
Prairie stopped Timberline but were 3 plays and punt on their next possession.
Timberline answered with a scoring drive to make it 0-16.
Prairie finally put a drive together alternating Henry and Kelby Wilson on the ground to rack up a pair of first downs. A 32 yard pass play from Mat Forsmann to James Hood set the Pirates up with a first and goal at the 8.
Prairie was stopped on the first three downs but got the touchdown when Forsmann ran a bootleg to the right for 4 yards. The conversion try failed and prairie now trailed 6-16.
Timberline came back to score on their next two possessions to extend the lead to 6-32.
Prairie then scored again using a pair of big pass plays. Forsmann hit C.J. Rieman deep over the middle for a 30 yard gain and followed that with a 20 yard gainer on a screen pass to Henry that put Prairie at the 2 yard line. 
Kelby Wilson scores a touchdown. He broke a tackle attempt by the defender on the ground behind him.Wilson scored 2 plays later on a 1 yard plunge to make it 12-32 with just 26 seconds left in the half.
Timberline didn’t back off though as they passed deep for 37 yards and then ran the old hook and lateral gadget play for another touchdown just as the half ended. They added the 2-pointer for a 12-40 halftime lead.
Timberline added another touchdown early in the third quarter on a 50 yard run with Forsmann getting hurt attempting to make the tackle. Forsmann had missed the last couple of games with a rib injury and this time it looked to be a knee injury.
With Wilson moved back to the quarterback spot Prairie answered with their third TD drive of the game.
Wilson gained 14 yards on a quarterback sneak  on third and 2 to put Prairie into Timberline territory and 3 plays later connected with Henry on a short slant pass that Henry managed to take 33 yards for a touchdown to make it 18-48.
Timberline scored twice more to make it 18-62 but missed on the 2-point try on the second touchdown that would have ended the game on the 45-point rule.
With another chance, Prairie came back to score again. 
Kyle Groom gave the Pirates great field position when he returned the kickoff 39 yards to the Timberline 35.
Henry then picked up 27 yards on a play that started as a sweep to the right that he cut back to the left. That gave Prairie a first and goal at the 8. 
Three plays netted a 2 yard loss then on fourth and goal Wilson ran a bootleg to the left and broke 3 tackles on the way to a touchdown that made it 24-62.James Hood makes a catch over the middle for big yardage.
Jacob Holthaus’ onside kick try took a high bounce just as it got to the Timberline front line and Rieman wound up  recovering at the Timberline 49.
After a pair of first downs including a 20 yard run by Henry, Prairie looked ready to score again at the Timberline 17 but Wilson’s pass was picked off and returned 85 yards for a touchdown. Timberline again needed just the 2-pointer to end the game but the run was stopped short.
This time Prairie couldn’t capitalize as Wilson was again intercepted with the ball returned to the Prairie 6 and 2 plays later Timberline scored to end the game on the 45-point rule.
Prairie gained 142 yards rushing, their best output of the season, led by Henry’s 97 yards. Wilson added 43 yards on 12 carries.
Forsmann completed 5 of 11 passes for 97 yards and Wilson completed 2 of 11 passes with 2 interceptions for 42 yards. 
Henry caught 2 passes for 53 yards, Rieman 2 for 39, Hood 2 for 36 and Wilson 1 for 11 yards.
Timberline racked up 310 yards rushing led by Jesse Opresik who had 175 yards on 15 carries. They completed 8 of 13 passes for 125 yards.
On defense Forsmann had 5 assists and 6 solo tackles to lead the way with Wilson picking up 6 assists and 3 solos. Eric Lerandeau had 5 assists and 2 solos while Clark Tacke had 5 assists and 1 solo. Henry had 4 assists. Nick Johnson had 2 assists and 2 solos. Rieman had 1 assists, 3 solos and an onside kick recovery.
The Pirates end the season with a 0-7 league record and 0-8 overall record.

Cottonwood Wrestling Club had 27 kids participate in the tournament on Saturday Oct 30.  
Earning a Gold medal was Justin Schmidt.  
Earning a Silver medal were Brandon Anderson, Terran Vanator, Justin Ross, Tyler Ross, Torin Dalgliesh, Jason VonBargen, James Jackson, and Tyrel Langston. 
Earning a Bronze Medal were Austin Kidd, Kellie Heitman, Drew Cochran, Taylor Heitman, Tristan Leonard, Garrett Schmidt, Brandon Poxleitner, Zak Waller and Michael Matson.
Brandon Anderson in wrestling action. Drew Cochran earned a bronze medal.
Raice Dalgliesh in the up position. Rhiana Fox in control.
Victor Schmidt and Justin Ross had to wrestle each other.
