Pirates lose at Grangeville
The Prairie Pirates spent 3 quarters building a 33-19 lead over Grangeville only to see it disappear in the fourth quarter as they lost 37-40 in their season-opener at Grangeville Tuesday, Nov. 30.
Prairie still led by 14 with 5:30 to go but then Grangeville’s full-court trap started to get to them as they committed 9 turnovers in the final 5:30 of play.
Grangeville finally tied the score with 27 seconds left and an ensuing technical foul on the Pirates gave Grangeville the lead.
Prairie had trailed 6-9 after the first quarter but took a 17-14 lead by the half and outscored the Bulldogs 16-5 in the third quarter.
Losing point guard Kevin Funke to fouls early in the fourth quarter didn’t help the Pirates in handling the Grangeville press.
The bulk of Prairie’s scoring was done by their inside duo of Chad Arnzen and Seth Crane who scored 17 and 15 points respectively. Corey Schaeffer added 3 points with Kelby Wilson scoring 2.
Grangeville also won the JV game 12-43.

They held Mullan to just 2 points in the third quarter as they closed with 1 point after 3 quarters at 18-19.
In the fourth quarter Prairie dominated, outscoring Mullan 16-6 to pull way for the win.
