Pirates win by 6 at Deary
The Prairie Pirates overcame a halftime deficit to pull out a 40-34 win at Deary Tuesday, Jan. 11.
The game was tied inside the final 2 minutes when Sean Daly connected on a big 3-pointer and Prairie hit key free throws to hold onto the lead.
Deary led the game 8-11 after the first quarter and still led at the half 13-15.
Prairie outscored the Mustangs 16-10 in the third quarter to take a 28-25 lead into the final quarter.
Corey Schaeffer led the Pirates in scoring 2ith 11 points with Seth Crane and Mat Forsmann scoring 9 each. Daly scored 6 with Kevin Funke scoring 3 and Kelby Wilson 2.
In the JV game Prairie won 43-39.

Pirates lose by 18 to Nezperce
The Nezperce Indians used outside shooting to break open a close game and went on to defeat the Prairie Pirates 48-66 at Cottonwood Thursday, Jan. 13.
The Pirates outplayed Nezperce in the first quarter forcing 8 Indians turnovers. Seth Crane scored Prairie’s first 5 points and Sean Daly added a 3-pointer as Prairie took an 8-5 lead.Seth Crane puts up a jump shot from near the free throw line. Corey Schaeffer and Kevin Funke set up for a rebound.
Nezperce closed within 8-7 at the quarter break on a basket by Dan Luke.
Luke gave Nezperce the lead in the second with a 3-pointer but Daly answered with one of his own for an 11-10 Prairie lead. That was Prairie’s last lead though as Nezperce closed out the half with a 2-14 run and 3 more 3-pointers.
The Indians kept up the onslaught in the third quarter as they connected on 9 baskets including 3 more 3-pointers and led 29-48 heading into the fourth quarter.
A promising note in the fourth quarter for Prairie was that Mat Forsmann found his missing 3-point shooting touch as he connected an 3 of 5 attempts from long distance in the quarter including 1 from about 24 feet. Prairie was unable to get any closer than 15 points though.
There were 17 made 3-pointers in the game, 10 by Nezperce who were 10 for 19 from long range.
Crane wound up leading the Pirates in scoring with 15 points with Forsmann adding 14, Daly 9, Corey Schaeffer 8 and Kevin Funke 2.
Nezperce held a slim 34-36 rebounding edge, Schaeffer and Crane had 9 rebounds each to lead Prairie.
Schaeffer had 3 steals and Funke had 5 assists. Prairie had 15 assists on their 19 baskets in the game.
The Pirates were 19 for 53 from the field, 36%, and 3 for 10 at the line. Nezperce was 26 for 55 from the field, 47%, and 4 for 9 at the line.
The loss drops Prairie to 2-2 in league play and 3-7 overall.
In the JV game Nezperce jumped out to a 2-12 lead and went on to beat the Pirates 42-57.
The Indians hit 8 of 11 shots in the first quarter as they took an 8-18 lead into the quarter break. They extended the lead to 20-35 by halftime.Corey Schaeffer goes for a lay-up against Nezperce.
The Indians cooled off in the third quarter, hitting just 2 of 14 attempts and Prairie was able to cut the lead to 27-37 late in the quarter.
Nezperce then went on a 0-12 run to put the game completely out of reach.
Ryan Daly led the JV’s in scoring with 13 points with Chris Schumacher adding 12 on a near perfect shooting night. He was 4 for 5 from the field and 4 for 5 at the line as well.
Daniel Sigler added 7 points with Jacob Holthaus and J.D. Riener scoring 4 each. Sam Forsmann scored 2.
Nezperce dominated the boards 24-43. Schumacher led Prairie with 8 rebounds with Daly adding 7.
Daly and Schumacher had 5 steals each and Holthaus had 4 assists.
Prairie was 17 for 47 from the field, 36%, and 8 for 15 at the line. Nezperce was 24 for 52 from the field, 46%, and 7 for 14 at the line.
