Pirates shut out Timberline
The Prairie baseball team had little trouble with Timberline as they posted a 14-0 win at Cottonwood Thursday, April 28.Chris Schumacher is about to connect for a 2-run single.
Three pitchers combined for the shutout as Mat Forsmann pitched the first two innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 4. C. J. Rieman pitched the third and fourth innings allowing 1 hit while hitting one batter and striking out 5. Phil Henry pitched the final inning allowing 1 hit while striking out 1.
Prairie scored all the runs they needed in an 8-run outburst in the first inning. The first seven batters all reached base and later scored.
Kevin Funke was hit by a pitch leading off and Mat Forsmann walked. Danny Riener singled to left to score Funke and Forsmann wound up scoring on a wild pitch.
Chad Arnzen walked and Eric Lerandeau singled to score both Riener and Arnzen.
Rieman followed with a double and Sean Daly was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After an out, Chris Schumacher got a bloop single to right that scored 2 runs.
Funke walked to load the bases and Timberline changed pitchers. After a second out, Riener doubled down the left field line to scored Daly and Schumacher.
In the second inning Prairie loaded the bases on a hit batsman and two walks but was unable to score.
Mat Forsmann steals home and raises a cloud of dust as he scores.In the third they added 5 more runs. Riener started things off with his third hit of the day, a single to left. He went all the way to third when the fielder misplayed the ball. Arnzen followed with a walk and he and Riener pulled off a double steal with Riener scoring. Lerandeau walked and Rieman singled home Arnzen. Daly walk to load the bases and Sam Forsmann singled to center to score two runs. Schumacher then beat out an infield hit with another run scoring.
Prairie added another run in the fourth when Lerandeau hit a one out triple to deep center. He scored on Ben Forsmann’s single to left.
The game was called after the top of the fifth on the 10-run mercy rule.
Prairie had 12 hits in the game led by Riener with a double and 2 singles. Lerandeau had a triple and a single and Rieman had a double and a single. Sam Forsmann Schumacher each had a pair of singles and Ben Forsmann had a single.

Pirates win 15-3 at Timberline
The Prairie baseball team picked up another league win as they pounded Timberline 15-3 at Weippe Monday, May 2.Phil Henry looks up at a pop-up.
Chad Arnzen tossed a 3-hitter to pick up his first win.
Arnzen had a bit of a rough start as he gave up all 3 runs in the first two innings but then settled down and posted zeroes the final 3 innings. He wound up with 5 strikeouts.
Meanwhile Prairie had little trouble scoring against the Spartans as they pounded out 11 hits and scored at least 4 runs in 3 different innings.
C.J. Rieman led the hitting attack with a double and 2 singles while Mat Forsmann and Phil Henry picked up 2 singles each. Arnzen contributed a double while Danny Riener, Sean Daly and Chris Schumacher each had a single.
With the win Prairie improves to 7-2 in league play and 7-7 overall.

District tournaments to start
The District 2 Class 1A softball and baseball tournaments starts this weekend with Prairie hosting the softball tournament at the Wimer Ballfields in Cottonwood and the baseball tournament being held at Kendrick’s field near Juliaetta.
Both tournaments feature identical brackets.
The tournaments actually start with play-in games on Thursday between the sixth and seventh place teams at the sixth place team’s home field. That will get the tournaments down to 6 teams.
There will be two games Friday with the #4 and #5 teams playing at 3 p.m. followed by the #3 vs. the play-in winner at 5:30.
On Saturday the two Friday losers will play at 10 a.m. At 12:30 p.m. the #1 seed will play the 4 vs. 5 winner. At 3 p.m. the #2 seed will play the other Friday winner.
The tournament continues on Friday, May 13 with a pair of loser out games. At 3 p.m. the winner from the previous Saturday morning  loser-out game will play the lowest seeded loser from Saturday afternoon’s games at 3 p.m. The winner of that game will play the higher seeded loser from Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, May 14 the championship games are scheduled for 12 noon. The loser of that game will play the Friday night winner at 2:30 for second place and a trip to state.
Two teams advance to state out of each tournament. 
The softball team the number 1 seed in their tournament with an 11-1 league record while the baseball team is the number 2 seed in their tournament with a 10-2 league record.
