Pirates lose big to Troy
A depleted Prairie football team managed to keep the game going well into the fourth quarter as they lost 12-60 to Troy Friday, Oct. 7 at Cottonwood.Tim Russell cuts up into a hole created by Prairie blockers.
Prairie was missing several starters due to suspensions stemming from an incident the previous week.
Prairie had to kick off to open the game and Troy scored after just 4 plays. 
The Trojans quickly made it a 2-touchdown lead when they forced Prairie to punt and then returned the punt for another touchdown.
Prairie got their offense untracked on their third possession. They picked up a couple of first downs and moved down to the Troy 39 before self-destructing with penalties. 3 false start penalties backed the Pirates up and the fell short of a first down despite 21 yards worth of offensive plays.
Troy took over at their 34 and took just 5 plays to add another touchdown.
Troy scored again after forcing a punt and the made it 0-36 after an interception return to the 1 yard line set up another score.
Prairie finally got on the board thanks to a great run by Ryan Daly. 
Prairie took over at heir 30 after the kickoff and picked up a first down out to their 45 after an 8 yard run by Tim Russell.
On second down at their 47, Daly took a handoff to the left and managed to weave his way through a group of defenders, popping out into the clear and then outran the defense to the end zone for a 53 yard scoring play.
Troy came right back with another touchdown to make it 6-44, which was the halftime score.
Troy ran their second team offense in the third quarter and Prairie held them scoreless.
Late in the quarter the Pirates put together another scoring drive.
It started with a 9 yard gain on a pass from Mat Forsmann to Phil Henry. 
Forsmann picked up the first down on a quarterback sneak. He then scrambled out of pass formation to the left for 12 yards and another first down at the Troy 39.
On the next play Forsmann was in shotgun formation and was forced to run. He wound up picking up 31 yards on the play for a first and goal at the 8.
Mat Forsmann, 1, gained big yardage on this run, setting up Prairie's second touchdown. At right is Phil Henry.Russell gained 5 yards on a sweep to the left. Daly then gained 2 yards to the 1. After Forsmann was stopped on a sneak, Russell scored on a run to the right to make it 12-44.
A 26 yard kickoff return and a pass interference penalty against the Pirates had Troy apparently headed for another score.
A pair of fumbles though led to 19 yards in losses. Troy then tried a halfback pass and Forsmann intercepted at the 3yard line.
Prairie was unable to move the ball though and Troy returned the punt for another touchdown.
Prairie’s next possession was a disaster. A holding penalty 10 yards behind the line cost Prairie 20 yards back to their own 10.
A bad snap then led to a scramble for the ball with Russell recovering it in the end zone for a safety.
Troy returned the free kick down to the Prairie 7 and Troy ended the game on the 45-point mercy rule with a touchdown on the next play.
Daly wound up with 83 yards on 11 carries to lead the Prairie offense. Forsmann added 37 yards on 6 carries and Russell added 34 yards on 17 carries. Prairie had 144 yards rushing on 34 attempts.
Forsmann completed 8 of 24 passes with 2 interceptions for 58 yards. Russell caught 4 passes for 23 yards with Henry catching 2 for 18. Shaun Daly caught 1 for 11 and Ryan Daly caught 1 for 6 yards.
Troy gained 214 yards rushing led by Roshaun Pesho who had 77 yards on 6 carries. Riley Nelson added 71 yards on 6 carries.
Troy quarterbacks were 7 for 11 passing with 1 interception for 116 yards.
On defense Russell led the way with 10 tackles while Corey Schaeffer had 8 tackles. J.D. Riener had 5 tackles. Forsmann had 4 tackles and an interception while Daniel Sigler, Seth Crane and Nick Johnson had 3 tackles each.
Prairie drops to 1-4 in league play and 1-5 overall. Their next game is this Friday, Oct. 14 at Clearwater Valley.
