Parking laws enforced
Several residents of Cottonwood woke up to a surprise on Sunday morning.  They discovered a blaze orange sticker affixed to the drivers side window of their car.
Cottonwood Police Department patrolled Saturday night searching for illegally parked cars.  The focus was Idaho Code 49-661(1) which states that “every vehicle shall be parked with the RIGHT HAND wheels parallel to and within eighteen inches of the RIGHT HAND curb or as close as practicable to the RIGHT HAND edge of the RIGHT HAND shoulder”.
The trend lately seems to be that anyone can park on any side of the street that they choose.  This is not only illegal, but dangerous.  Imagine driving down your lane of travel, and you see a vehicle pointed at you, on your side of the road!  Additionally, for someone to park on the left hand side of the street, they had to drive on the wrong side of the roadway, at least twice, to get there and depart.
So, the stickers were used to warn people of their violation in hopes that that is all that will be needed to correct the problem.  The main concern is safety.  Safety for yourselves as well as other drivers utilizing the roadway.  Let’s see if perhaps this will be the end of the problem and everyone will stay on the RIGHT lane.
