21 turn out for PHS boys basketball
Twenty-one players have turned out for the Prairie boys basketball team which will play its first game next Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Grangeville.
Chris Schumacher is ready to put up a lay-in after stealing the ball during action at the Jamboree. The varsity and JV will each have 11 players with one player listed as on both rosters.
The Pirates should be a solid contender this year thanks to 5 returning players who saw a lot of playing time last year. They are seniors Seth Crane, Mat Forsmann and Sean Daly and juniors Cory Schaeffer and Ryan Daly.
J.D. Riener, a junior, also saw significant playing time in District tournament last year.
Sophomore Josh Gabica, a transfer from Middleton will see a lot of time at point guard if you go by the Pirates play at the Jamboree in Kooskia Monday, Nov. 21.
A player who looks to be much improved over last year, based on Jamboree action, is senior Chris Schumacher.
Rounding out the varsity squad are seniors Sam Forsmann and Jared Nau and junior Jake Holthaus.
Coach Jerry Uhling appears to have some needed depth this year on the squad, something that was in very short supply last year.
Troy, Lapwai, Genesee and Nezperce again look to be the teams to beat with the Pirates giving Nezperce a tough battle at the Jamboree.
On the JV squad under new coach Joe Baerlocher will be juniors Holthaus, Ben Forsmann, Nate Kaschmitter, Daniel Sigler and exchange student Pero Jolevski, sophomore exchange student Pedro Sato, and freshmen Kyle Daly, Eric Daly, Ronnie Chandler, Tyler Forsmann and Steven Baerlocher.
