Fish hatching project funded
For the last two years, Prairie Elementary School has had the opportunity to have the Hatchery in the Classroom Project through the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery.
This year Prairie Elementary will purchase their own equipment and continue the Hatchery in the Classroom Project as part of the fourth grade Idaho History curriculum.  This project was funded by grants from Cottonwood Booster Club, Idaho County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Governor’s Innovative Grant.  This cross-curricular, hands-on project has helped provide practical life-experience in science and math.  It also demonstrates the importance of the steelhead throughout the history of our state.

Chris Kaschmitter, left, presents a check to Tara Duclos, the Community Resource Worker for the Cottonwood School District, to help fund the annual fish hatching project at the Elementary School.

Tara Duclos is shown with Scott Wasem of the Idaho County Soil and Water Conservation District. They provided a grant to help fund the Elementary School’s fish hatching project.
