35 players out for football
There are 35 players out for the Prairie High School football team this year.
Head coach Travis Mader feels the team should be in the mix for one of the White Pine League’s state playoff slots. He feels Kendrick and Genesee are the favorites with Troy, Timberline and Prairie all competing for the third spot.Danny Riener gains big yardage during the Watermelon Bowl.
Assistant coaches are Teel Bruner, Ron Sigler and Ryan Hasselstrom.
An influx of talented freshmen has helped offset the loss of last year’s senior starters. Freshman Kyle Holthaus looks to be the starting quarterback with fellow freshman David Sigler as one of his prime targets at receiver.
The running backs looked good during Saturday evening’s public scrimmage. Seniors Dan Riener and Ryan Daly both show a combination of speed and power.
Senior Jake Holthaus will be the other receiver and seniors J.D. Riener and Dan Sigler will play on the line.
Other seniors are Brandon Johnson, Nate Kaschmitter and Corey Schaeffer. Schaeffer will start on the defensive line while Johnson and Kaschmitter are backups at running back and quarterback respectively.
Juniors on the team are Kenneth Enneking, Zach Frei, Ron George, Nick Johnson and Jon Rice.
Sophomores are Ronnie Chandler, Kyle Daly, Eric Daly, Tyler Forsmann, Andy Groom, Mike Matson, Cody Miller, Chase Nuxoll, Curtis Nuxoll, Chance Ratcliff, Brandon Ross and Zak Waller.
Freshmen in addition to the two mentioned above are Tyrell Langston, Conner Rieman, Derek Schaeffer, Wil Schlader, Joe Schumacher, Jason VonBargen and Brandan Waller.
Zach Frei, Wil Schlader and Chase Nuxoll are students from Summit Academy who have joined the Prairie team.
