Pirates dominate against Lapwai
The Prairie football team thoroughly dominated the Lapwai Wildcats in rolling to a 50-0 win at Lapwai Friday, Sept. 15.Ryan Daly goes after a loose ball.
The defense throttled the Wildcats holding them to a net of zero yards and only 3 first downs.
Meanwhile the Pirates rolled up 213 yards rushing led by Danny Riener who gained 175 yards on 20 carries.
Lapwai was forced to punt on their first possession with Prairie taking over at the 50 after the short 14 yard punt.
On the second play Riener burst through the middle and shed several would-be tacklers on a 44 yard touchdown romp. He used a stiff-arm to fend off the last Lapwai defender near the goal-line.
Riener added the 2-pointer for an 8-0 lead less than 3 minutes into the game.
Prairie got the ball right back 2 plays later when J.D. Riener recovered a Lapwai fumble at the Lapwai 45.
Prairie took 6 plays to score with Riener gaining 20 on another burst through the middle and Ryan Daly added 16 yards on a fullback dive to the middle. He was stopped at the 2 and Riener took the ball over the goal line on the next play.

Lapwai picked up their only first down of the first half on their next possession but 3 quarterback sacks, 1 each by Tyler Forsmann, Kyle Daly and Ryan Daly, forced the Wildcats to punt.
Prairie was forced to punt also, but got the ball right back when Ryan Daly recovered a Lapwai fumble at the Lapwai 15 yard line.
Danny Riener scored on the next play and added the 2-pointer to make it 22-0.
On Lapwai’s next possession they went for it on fourth and 3 and Branden Waller sacked the quarterback for an 11 yard loss to give Prairie the ball at the Lapwai 31.
Riener carried the ball 6 straight times for a total of 29 yards and then Ryan Daly picked up the touchdown from there. Riener added the 2-pointer to make it 30-0.
The Pirates forced Lapwai to punt again and took over at the Lapwai 47.
A holding penalty set the Pirates back temporarily but Kyle Holthaus completed a screen pass in the middle to David Sigler, who took the ball 23 yards to set up a third and 1.
Ryan Daly then carried for 22 yards to the left to put the ball on the 16.
Five plays later Ryan Daly scored another touchdown from the 2 yard line. Kyle Holthaus passed to Jake Holthaus for the 2-pointer to give Prairie a 38-0 lead at the half.Danny Riener breaks through the defense on a 44-yard touchdown run.
Prairie had to punt on their first second half possession and Lapwai answered with only their second first down of the game as they got past the 50 yard line for the first time in the contest. They got as far as the Prairie 35 before Ryan Daly intercepted a Lapwai pass and returned it 24 yards to the Lapwai 44.
Riener ran a sweep around right end for 21 yards then burst through the middle for 23 yards and another touchdown. A converted 2-pointer would have ended the game but J.D. Riener was unable to hang on to the pass on a guard eligible pass play.
Lapwai got a big kickoff return of 28 yards to the Prairie 48 and got down to the 33. On a fourth and 7 try from there, Kyle Daly picked off a pass at the 30 along the sideline and raced all the way downfield for the game-ending touchdown with 2:02 left in the third quarter.
In addition to Riener’s big day running the bal, Ryan Daly added 50 yards on 8 carries.
Kyle Holthaus completed 2 of 3 pass attempts for 22 yards. Sigler caught 1 for 23 yards and Ryan Daly 1 for minus 1 yard.
Lapwai was held to minus 15 yards rushing on 29 attempts thanks to 5 quarterback sacks that led to 50 yards in losses. Lapwai quarterback Cylen Moses managed to complete 4 of 7 attempts for 15 yards with 2 interceptions.Prairie cheerleaders do a jumping jack for each point on the scoreboard after every Prairie touchdown.
Waller led the defense in tackles with 8 including a sack. Danny Riener had 7 tackles. J.D. Riener had 4 tackles including a fumble recovery and a sack. Forsmann had 4 tackles including a sack. David Sigler and Corey Schaeffer had 4 tackles each. Ryan Daly had 3½ tackles with a sack, fumble recovery and an interception. Kyle Daly had 3½ tackles with a sack and an interception. Nate Kaschmitter had 1½ tackles and Jake Holthaus, Daniel Sigler and Ronnie Chandler had a ½ tackle each.
With the win Prairie improves to 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in league play. They will host Kendrick this Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m.
