Pirates split league games
The Prairie baseball team was on the both ends of blowouts as they split a pair of league games last week.
On Tuesday, March 20, they won big, 22-1, at Culdesac. Then on Thursday, March 22, they lost big in their home opener, 0-21 to Timberline.
On Tuesday at Culdesac Eric Daly threw 3 hitless innings then was lifted for Kyle Holthaus in the fourth inning. Holthaus gave up 3 hits and the Wolves only run in the bottom of the fifth.
On offense, Prairie took advantage of 15 hits and 11 Culdesac errors to pile up their 22 runs.
The Pirates scored 7 runs in the first inning and 8 in the fourth. They scored at least 2 runs in each of the other 3 innings.
Out of the 15 hits there were just 3 extra-base his, a double each by Holthaus, Ronnie Chandler and Nate Kaschmitter.
Holthaus had 3 hits while Chandler, Kyle Daly, Kaschmitter and Ben Forsmann had 2 hits each. Eric Daly, Ben Schumacher, Conner Rieman and Steven Baerlocher had 1 hit each.
Thursday’s game against Timberline was the total opposite as Prairie was the one committing 10 errors and not getting any hits. Timberline’s Mike Poppe threw a 5-inning no-hitter at the Pirates.
The Spartans meanwhile pounded out 18 hits including a homer and 4 doubles.
Chandler was the Prairie starting pitcher. He pitched into the third inning where he was relieved by Kaschmitter. He lasted into the fourth when Dan Riener went to the mound. Timberline scored 9 runs each in the third and fourth innings.
With the split Prairie is now 2-1 in league play and 4-3 overall.
The team doesn’t play during Spring break with their next action set for Tuesday, April 3, at home against Kamiah.
