Casey Meza to be featured on webcast
Casey Meza, CEO, Clearwater Valley and St. Mary’s Hospitals will be one of three featured panelists on an April 17 Casey Mezanational webcast sponsored by HealthLeaders Media.  The subject of the 90 minute interactive broadcast, Community Hospital Leadership Strategies: Share or Struggle, focuses on rural partnerships.
“I am flattered to have been selected as a presenter,” said Meza.  “The partnership of our two hospitals has served as a model for other facilities around the nation.  With the growing number of uninsured people and tight reimbursements it’s tough to succeed in today’s healthcare marketplace.  We’re like a family living within a small budget. You look for ways to economize, control costs and minimize expenses.  Partnering has certainly helped us continue to serve the people of this region.”
Topics included in the webcast include determining when it makes sense to collaborate, identifying potential partners for collaborative efforts and developing strategies to meet the challenges of partnership.  Meza will be joined by a CEO from a Rural Health Collaborative in southern Ohio and the executive director of the Rural Wisconsin Health Cooperative.
Meza has been CEO of SMHC since 1990 and CEO of CVHC since 1998.  Both are members of the Benedictine Health System based in Duluth, Minnesota.  The two hospitals have collaborated for nine years.  In 2005 their 17 member joint management team won the HealthLeaders magazine award for Top Management Team for Small Hospitals and were featured on the cover of the national publication.
SMHC administers four satellite medical clinics in Cottonwood, Kamiah, Nezperce and Craigmont and three physical therapy clinics in Grangeville, Cottonwood and Kamiah.  CVHC administers medical clinics in Pierce, Kooskia and Orofino and an outpatient physical therapy clinic in Orofino.  Both sponsor home health programs.  The joint service area for both facilities covers Lewis, Idaho and Clearwater County and serves over 125,000 area residents.
