ICL&P awards scholarships
Idaho County Light & Power Cooperative has awarded $500 scholarships to three area students.  Scholarship winners from left are Laura Gehring, Julia Workman and Kara Teats. The students are Laura Gehring, Sophomore at Prairie HS and the daughter of Tom and Judy Gehring; Kara Teats, Junior at Clearwater Valley HS and the daughter of Melvin and Joanne Teats; and, Julia Workman, Sophomore at Grangeville HS and the daughter of Jeff and Sheryl Workman.
The scholarships may be used towards the college or technical school of their choice after they graduate from high school.  In addition, each will attend the ICUA Youth Rally this July on the campus of the Albertson College of Idaho.  The Youth Rally is a leadership camp sponsored by the Idaho Consumer-Owned Utilities Association.
To earn a scholarship, each student submitted a 400-word essay that was graded by a panel of five judges.  The authors for the eight highest scoring essays were invited to interview with the same panel of judges.  The three students with the highest combined score from the essay and the interview were then awarded the scholarships.
The competition is available only to students whose parents or guardians are members of Idaho County Light & Power.  The judges are selected from the cooperative’s membership by the Board of Directors.  Funding for the scholarships and expenses to send the students to the Youth Rally are covered by Unclaimed Capital Credit Retirements.
