Pirates win 66-20 at Timberline
The Prairie football team bounced back from their only loss in a big way as they drubbed Timberline 66-20 at Weippe Friday, Sept. 21.
The Pirates were nearly unstoppable on offense as they had the ball 11 times in the game and scored 10 touchdowns with no scoring drive lasting more than 3 plays.
Kyle Daly, despite wearing a soft cast to protect a broken hand, rolled up 204 yards rushing and scored 4 touchdowns despite carrying the ball just 5 times. His first carry, a 14 yard gain, was the only time in the game he was tackled.Kyle Daly jukes past a Timberline defender for his 4th TD of the game.
Following Daly’s opening 14 yard run, quarterback Kyle Holthaus connected with David Sigler for 33 yards and a touchdown to make it 6-0 less than a minute into the game.
Timberline bounced back with a 24 yard gain on a fourth down play but on the next play fumbled with Branden Waller recovering at the Prairie 33.
It took Prairie just one play to score as Daly went left, cut back about 20 yards downfield and wound up going 67 yards for a touchdown. Devin Schmidt ran in the 2-pointer to make it 14-0.
Timberline again moved the ball picking up a pair of first downs but Sigler intercepted a third down pass to end the possession.
Prairie took over at their own 34 and took 3 plays to score. Waller ran up the middle for 11 then caught a pass for a 37 yard gain.
Conner Rieman scored the touchdown on an 18-yard pass play. Mike Matson’s kick for the extra point went wide leaving Prairie up 20-0.
Timberline got on the board on their next possession on a 56 yard run and added the 2-pointer to pull within 20-8.
They then tried an onside kick and recovered it at the 50. A penalty against the Prairie statistician moved the ball to the 35.
Prairie appeared to have Timberline stopped as a quarterback sack by Rieman set up a fourth and 17 play.
Timberline completed a pass for a 29 yard gain and a first down and Prairie got hit with another unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when Teel Bruner threw his hat to the ground in disgust at his defense giving up the first down. Timberline scored 3 plays later to cut the lead to 20-14.

Daly then picked up his second touchdown on the next play. He went around left end again for 51 yards. The only time a defender touched him was at the goal line as he was scoring. The conversion try failed again leaving Prairie up 26-14 with 1:06 left in the quarter.
Timberline fumbled the ball away again on their next possession with Sigler recovering at the Prairie 23.
It again took 3 plays to score. Sigler caught a pass down the left side for a 33 yard gain. Waller gained 2 up the middle. Holthaus then passed outside to Waller along the left sideline and Waller took it the distance for a 42 yard scoring play that put Prairie up 32-14.
On Timberline’s next possession Cody Miller batted down a fourth down pass attempt giving Prairie the ball at their own 37.
After an incomplete pass, Daly picked up his third touchdown of the game. This time he went up the middle then cut to the left and wound up going 63 yards for the score to make it 38-14.
Prairie kicked deep and Timberline’s return man muffed the ball with Sigler recovering at the 9 yard line.
Daly scored his fourth touchdown on the next play to make it 44-14.
Timberline answered back with a scoring drive as they went 56 yards in 7 plays to make it 44-20.
They tried another onside kick but Andy Groom covered the ball at the Prairie 46.
On the first play from scrimmage David Spencer, on his first varsity carry, went 33 yards around left end to the Timberline 21. On the next play Holthaus connected with Sigler for a 21 yard scoring play to make it 50-20.
Timberline was called for unsportsmanlike conduct on the play, which was assessed on the kickoff. Kicking off from the Timberline 45, Ronnie Chandler had little trouble kicking the ball into the end zone for a touchback.
The defense forced Timberline to punt and Sigler took the ball at the Timberline 46 and weaved his way downfield, breaking several tackles, until he was finally tackled at the 3 yard line.Tyrell Langston gains big yardage near the end of the first half.
Kyle Holthaus ran in the ball on the next play for the touchdown and Waller added the 2-pointer to make it 58-20 with 2:50 left in the half.
Timberline turned the ball over on downs at their 45 on their next possession and Prairie’s JV offense went in.
Tyrell Langston picked up 26 yards around right end on the first play and John Rice added 13 on the next to set up first and goal at the 6.
The offense stalled out there though and Prairie turned the ball over on downs at the 5. Timberline ran one play before the half ran out.
Prairie kicked off to start the second half and Timberline picked up a couple of first downs as they moved into Prairie territory at the 34.
The defense stiffened and Matson sacked the quarterback on fourth down to give Prairie the ball at their own 42.
On the first play Waller went up to the middle then cut to the right on his way to a 58 yard touchdown. He then ran in the 2-pointer to end the game on the 45-point mercy rule with 9:17 left in the third quarter.
Prairie wound up gaining 535 yards on 24 plays for an average of 22 yards per play. They had 351 yards rushing on 15 attempts, 23 yards per carry, with Daly gaining 204 yards on 5 carries, Waller 71 on 3 carries, Spencer 33 on 1 carry, Langston 28 on 2 carries and Rice 13 yards on 2 carries.
Holthaus completed 6 of 8 passes for 184 yards while Schmidt was 0 for 1 passing.
Sigler caught 3 passes for 87 yards, Waller 2 for 79 and Rieman 1 for 18.
Timberline gained 260 total yards, 197 rushing on 42 attempts and were 3 for 10 passing with an interception for 63 yards.
Dusty Daniels gained 137 yards rushing on 15 carries.
Schmidt had 8 tackles to lead the defense with Waller adding 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Miller had 6½ tackles and Groom had 5 tackles. Sigler had 4 tackles, 1 interception and 2 fumble recoveries. Matson had 4½ tackles plus a sack. Rieman had 2½ tackles and a sack. Kyler Shumway had 2½ tackles and Chase Nuxoll had 2 tackles.
With the win Prairie improves to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in league play.
They have this week off with their next game against Troy at Cottonwood on Friday, Oct. 5.
