Public forum to feature vein specialist
Dr. Alan Muench will be the featured speaker at the next ‘Our Health Our Community’ public forum on Thursday, October 18, 7:00 p.m. at the Soltman Center.  His presentation, Varicose Veins and Venous Insufficiency, will include information on the Closure® procedure, a minimally invasive way to treat venous reflux, the underlying cause of varicose veins. Dr. Alan Muench is the featured speaker at a public forum next Thursday.
Dr. Muench is a board certified surgeon who completed his residency in General Surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and a fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver.   He has instructed surgeons in three different residency training programs and consulted both nationally and internationally. His practice is based in Lewiston at the Clearwater Vein Care Center.
“The closure procedure is appropriate for many individuals who struggle with varicose veins and the effects of venous reflux and insufficiency,” said Dr. Muench.  “This minimally invasive, patient friendly alternative to traditional vein surgery is done on an outpatient basis and many of my patients return to everyday activities within a day.  I’ll talk about this procedure and other options and be available to answer any questions about these vascular issues.”
According to Dr. Muench, varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance on the skin. An estimated 10-20% of the adult population or 20-25 million people in the United States have this condition and more women than men are affected.
“Thanks to recent technology and new methods we now have alternatives to traditional vein stripping surgery,” said Dr. Muench.
This is the fourth in the ‘Our Health Our Community’ series of public health related lectures sponsored by Grangeville Physical Therapy, Groaners Fitness and St. Mary’s Hospital.  The forums are typically held every other month on Thursdays.  They are free and open to the public.  For additional information call GPT, 938-2241 or Groaners, 983-7070.
