Pirates win big at Culdesac
The Prairie Pirates rolled to an easy league win over a depleted Culdesac squad, 71-36, Thursday, Jan. 10 at Culdesac.
Prairie jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the game and led 26-8 at the end of the first period.
The Pirates extended the lead to 42-14 by halftime and 61-27 after 3 quarters.
David Sigler led the way in scoring with 23 points with Branden Waller scoring 13, Kyle Daly 11, Devin Schmidt 9, Conner Rieman 6, Derek Schaeffer 4, Tyler Forsmann 3 and Eric Daly 2.
Kyle Holthaus had 6 assists in the game while Kyle Daly had 5 rebounds.
Culdesac had only 6 players suited up and at times during the game were down to 4 players due to injuries.
As you would expect, there was no JV game.

Pirates lose big to Genesee
The Prairie Pirates got drilled by Genesee 43-69 in a league game at Cottonwood Saturday, Jan. 12.Eric Daly goes for a lay-up.
In the first quarter Prairie was able to score on the Bulldogs but Genesee would then shred the Pirates’s full-court press and usually score a lay-up. Daniel Carlson got the first 6 of his 10 first quarter points that way. When Carlson wasn’t scoring, Beau Dahmen was as he scored 9 first quarter points and added 7 more in the second quarter.
Prairie trailed 15-23 at the quarter break.
Then came the Pirates bad quarter, as they hit just 1 of 8 shots in the second period. They got no second chance points as Genesee outrebounded them 3-15 in the period and pulled away to a 20-38 halftime lead.
Kyle Daly and Branden Waller scored 4 points each in the fourth quarter but Genesee still extended their lead outscoring Prairie 10-16.
The fourth quarter was more of the same although Genesee got their scoring from their bench and still outscored Prairie 13-15.
David Sigler wound up leading Prairie in scoring with 13 points but was shut down by Genesee’s Jaymon Udy through the first 3 quarters as he scored 7 of his points in the final period.
Waller scored 12 with Devin Schmidt scoring 7, Tyler Forsmann 5, Kyle Daly 4 and Eric Daly 2.
Dahmen led Genesee with 18 points while Carlson scored 12.
Genesee controlled the boards 29-38. Waller led Prairie with 7 rebounds while Forsmann and Schmidt had 6 each.
Schmidt had 3 steals and Sigler had 5 assists.
Devon Schmidt puts a shot up from the lane.Prairie was 17 for 49 from the field, 35%, and 9 for 13 at the line, 69%, while Genesee was 29 for 63 from the field, 46%, and 9 for 14 at the line, 64%.
With the loss Prairie drops to 1-2 in league play and 6-6 on the season.
The JV game wasn’t any better for the Pirates as Prairie fell 25-56.
The JV’s were unable to solve Genesee’s full-court pressure as they turned the ball over 13 times in the first quarter and scored just 2 points as Genesee raced to a 2-21 lead.
In the second quarter Prairie was actually able to outscore the Bulldogs 8-7 as Genesee took the press off. With their turnovers cut down to just 2, Prairie was able to get some scoring opportunities as Beau Schlader, Seth Guyer and Derek Schaeffer each scored a basket. Prairie still trailed though by 10-28 at the half.
In the third quarter Genesee through the press back on for the first 4 minutes of the quarter and outscored Prairie 7-23 to push their lead to 35 points.
Prairie outscored the Bulldogs 8-4 over the final 12 minutes with just 2 points each scored in the fourth quarter.
Schaeffer scored 10 to lead the JV’s in scoring with Schlader scoring 5, Guyer 4, and Joe Schumacher, Conner Rieman and Kyle Holthaus adding 2 points each.
Genesee dominated the boards 19-35. Schaeffer led the Pirates with 8. 
Joe Schumacher had 4 steals while Kyle Holthaus had 3. Beau Schlader had 5 assists out of the 6 Prairie baskets he didn’t score himself.
Prairie was 8 for 37 from the field, 22%, and 8 for 11 at the line, 73%. Genesee was 23 for 44 from the field, 52%, and 6 for 9 at the line, 67%.
