Nezperce to put on 11th Progressive Agriculture Safety Day™
May 10th, 2008 will be the date of the 11th Progressive Agriculture Safety Day™ that will be held in Nezperce.  Plans are under way to guarantee satisfaction like never before!  The main focus continues to be children who will be 5 years old by September 1st, 2008 through 12 years old.  Last year we introduced the family sessions, which will be continued on this year, so make sure you bring your family!
During the safety day, children participate in interactive activities that reinforce the importance of taking responsibility for their own safety, respecting parents’ safety rules and sharing safety tips with family and friends.
Hands on demonstrations teach participants life saving first aid techniques and reveal the hidden hazards of farm surroundings.  Demonstrations this year will focus on farm hazards in regards to fires, combines, ponds, and PTO’s.
National and local sponsors of the safety day hope participants will maintain a healthy respect for farm hazards throughout their lives, and that, ultimately, the numbers of deaths and injuries among rural children will decrease.  Progressive Agriculture Safety Days™ are sponsored nationally by Bunge, Toyota, Tractor Supply Co., The Farm Credit System Foundation, John Deere, Kawasaki, Case IH, Monsanto, Pioneer, Shell Lubricants, and State Farm.  Local farmers and merchants donate their time, dollars, and equipment to ensure that each safety day is a fun and rewarding experience.
Parents can register their children or family to participate in the camp by calling Marci Stapleton at 937-2348, or registration forms are available at local ag-related businesses as well as all St. Mary’s Hospital clinics.  Registrations must be received by April 1st, 2008.  A $5.00/child or $10.00/family registration fee for the event covers lunch, snacks, a take-home packet and a safety day t-shirt.  If you’d like to help sponsor the day, volunteer to help, or have questions about what is taught, please call Shari or Amy Kuther at 937-2359.
