May has been a busy month for the Intergenerational Action Team.  Co-Chair Chinh Le reports that the Cottonwood City Council approved moving forward to the next steps for the Community Hall Renovation Project at their May 12 meeting.  The city will be putting out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for procurement of an architect to work on the project.  In addition to working with the architect in the coming months, the action team’s job will be to pursue funding options, fundraising, and getting word out to the community on what they are doing.
The next Intergenerational Action Team’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:30 p.m. in the downstairs multi-purpose room at the Community Center.  This is a very important meeting and all interested community members are encouraged to attend.  The action team will be going on a tour of the Community Hall and discussing potential changes and renovations to the building.  They will also be discussing fundraising ideas.  Please plan to attend and be part of the renovations.  We thank and celebrate all the work done by both the City Council and the action team members.
Prairie Horizons sponsored a Youth Philanthropy/Leadership Information Meeting on May 22nd at St. Gertrude monastery’s Spirit Center.  Mike Beebe, Director of Penny Harvest Seattle spoke on the Penny Harvest Program.  This is a year-round, service-learning program that engages students of all ages in community building, education and leadership.  Throughout the year, students gather pennies (coins), make grants and take action in philanthropy, service, and leadership.
As a result of this meeting, the Cottonwood School District is considering the adoption of the Penny Harvest Program.  Their mission is, “To raise a new generation of informed, capable, and caring young citizens by turning pennies into dollars, and dollars into deeds.  We celebrate and thank all of those who participated in making this program a possibility for our community.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the Quad Cities Town Hall Meeting which will take place on Tuesday, June 10th  7:00-9:00 PM.  Everyone is invited and refreshments will be served.  The Horizons Action Teams will share with everyone what has been taking place since our rally in October of 2007.  This lively event will be an excellent time to get updates on Prairie Horizons, regroup with committees you were/are interested in, get questions answered, and sign up for some of the interesting projects that are being formulated.  We hope to see many of you there to celebrate and continue making the Quad Cities vision a reality for everyone.
