Prairie Youth Choir to Start Rehearsals on Wednesday, October 1st
The Prairie Youth Choir will be starting rehearsals on Wednesday, October 1st in the Prairie Elementary Music Room.  Prairie Youth Choir is open to any student in the 3rd - 6th grades enrolled in the Cottonwood School District, Summit Academy or Home-Schooled.  We have a tradition of striving for musical excellence and we like to have fun in the processJ  The only requirements are that you like to sing, are willing to be a team player in a choir, and learn your music.  You do not have to audition, but you need to attend the majority of the rehearsals in order to participate in our performances.  In choir, you learn how to warm up your voice properly, have opportunities to sing solos, work on dramatic skills and stage presence, and have a good time doing so.   You also learn how to sing harmony and blend your voice with the other choir members.
Rehearsals are generally on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30.  (However, we will practice on Thursday after school, if there is an early out on Wednesday.)   We also have additional practices in January and February to help prepare for Jazz Festival – usually on Tuesday or Thursday after school, but it depends upon the schedule of the choir members.
Some of the activities of the Prairie Youth Choir are:  Christmas caroling in the community, and presenting several small concerts at school and in the community.  Of course, we also participate in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow in February and watch and listen to the 200 voice University of Idaho Jazz Choir and other outstanding Elementary, Middle School and Junior High Choirs and Bands throughout the Northwest.
The cost is $40.00 for new members and $30.00 for returning members.  The fees pay for music that you will share with a partner, your choir shirt, entry fees for the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow, and other costs to run the choir - accompanist, etc.
So, if you like to sing, be sure to attend our first practice on Wednesday, October 1st in the Prairie Elementary Music Room, right after school.  You can ride the bus to the Elementary if you are in the Middle School.  If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Karel, the director, at 962-3122 before school or from 10:00 -10:30 a.m., or at home in the evenings at 962-5350.
Hope to see you there!!!
