SMHC sponsors memorial service
St. Mary’s Hospital is sponsoring a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 22 at 1:30 p.m.  The service is designed to honor and remember area individuals who have passed away this past year.  The service is an annual event which will be held at the St. Gertrude’s Monastery Spirit Center.Irma Tacke, Sr Corinne Forsman and Helen Huntley, St. Mary’s Hospital NOSDA volunteers, plan the annual Memorial Service scheduled for November 22nd.
A Memorial Tree featuring names of the recently deceased will be used during the service.  Afterwards, it will be placed in the entrance of the clinic until Christmas.
“The service will remember and celebrate the lives of our family and friends who have died this past year.  We’ll commemorate their lives and pray with those who miss them,” said Sr. Corinne Forsman, SMH Mission Services Director and NOSDA coordinator.  “Often the holidays can be a difficult time for families.  We want to provide an opportunity to remember loved ones.  Anyone who would like to attend is more than welcome.”  Anyone needing a ride to the Spirit Center can meet in the hospital parking lot at 1:00 p.m. for transportation.
The service has been sponsored by the SMHC Mission Committee in the past, but the NOSDA volunteers have offered to coordinate the commemoration.  NOSDA, No One Shall Die Alone, volunteers provide an end of life presence for individuals who have no family members nearby or whose family members need a respite from the bedside.  They visit within the hospital, retirement centers or long term care facilities.
For more information about the Memorial Service or volunteering with NOSDA contact Sr. Corinne Forsman at St. Mary’s Hospital, 962-3251.
