Grief forum scheduled for this week
The Health Matters public forum on Grief and the Grieving Process will be held this Wednesday, January 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the downstairs conference room at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Jay Kessinger, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, will discuss signs and symptoms of grief, describe milestones in the grieving process, talk about the broad spectrum of events that can cause grief and address unresolved grief.  Jay Kessinger, LCSW, will speak at a SMHC Health Matters forum on Grief and Grieving on Wednesday, January 21 at 2:30 p.m.
“We all experience grief in our life times.  It is a normal process we go through whenever we lose something or somebody we truly care about. How we handle grief varies from person to person,” said Kessinger.  “Like any topic, the more we know about the grieving process the better able we may be to understand ourselves and others.”
The forum is sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics.  Kessinger is a licensed clinical social worker with 40 years of clinical experience in mental health.  He was administrator at State Hospital North for seven years.
“A lot of people experience a recurrence of grief during the holidays, so now may be a good time to learn more about it.  I hope people will take advantage of this opportunity.  Everyone is welcome,” said Sr. Corinne Forsman, SMHC Mission Services Coordinator.
The forum begins at 2:30 p.m. and is open to the public.  Refreshments will be served.  For further information call Sr. Corinne, SMHC, 962-3251.
