Successful Year for Prairie H.S. HOSA
Prairie High School students recently attended the HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America) State Leadership Conference in Boise, Idaho. The students that attended were: Dani Cochran, Kyle Daly, Amber Frei, Kara Guyer, Seth Guyer, Brock Heath, Kayla Johnson, Mike Karel, Katie Nuxoll, Conner Rieman, Demetria Riener and Josh Zigler.  Advisor attending was Sheri Daly.
There were over 400 students that attended the Idaho state conference with 22 schools being represented.  There are 517 students in Idaho that are members of HOSA.  National membership is 105,000.  
Students that placed in their events were:  Kyle Daly, Brock Heath, Conner Rieman and Josh Zigler 1st in HOSA Bowl (out of 12 teams) ; Dani Cochran and Kayla Johnson 3rd in CPR/First Aid (out of 10 teams); Kara Guyer, Mike Karel and Demetria Riener 3rd in Medical reading (out of 6 teams); Conner Rieman 3rd in Medical Terminology (out of 48 individuals); Josh Zigler 5th Medical Math; Mike Karel 6th Medical Math;  Dani Cochran 4th Extemporaneous Health Poster; Kayla Johnson 5th Extemporaneous Health poster; and Katie Nuxoll 5th Prepared Speaking.
Congratulations to the following students that qualified to attend the National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in June month to compete: Kyle, Brock, Conner, Josh, Dani, Kayla, Mike, Kara and Demetria.   The National HOSA Conference is June 23-27. 
Other members that were in HOSA this year that did not attend the State conference include:  JC Enriquez, Andrew Gabica, Kevin Karel, Taylor Ratcliff, Josh Roeper, Kyler Shumway, David Sigler, Amanda Stinson and Cassie Weightman.
Officers for this past year were:  Conner Rieman (President); Kyle Daly (Vice-President); Katie Nuxoll (Treasurer); Amber Frei (Secretary); Kayla Johnson (Historian); and Dani Cochran (Reporter).  
Prairie HOSA students contributed 304 hours towards community service this past school year.  Thank you to the following individuals and facilities that offered the students the opportunity to give back to their communities:  St. Mary’s Hospital & Clinics, St. Mary’s Hospital Ambulance Service, Cottonwood Blood Drive (American Red Cross), Prairie Elementary School Book Fair, Pee Wee Basketball, Prairie HS Football, Prairie Middle School Wellness day, Cottonwood Youth Soccer, Prairie HS Knowledge Bowl, National Ski Patrol, Cottonwood Food Bank, Center For Discovery, Prairie Community Library, Prairie HS Drama Group,  and St. Gertrude’s Monastery.  Thank you to the Booster Club for their support of the HOSA students and to Mr. Shumway for helping drive us to the conference.
