Pirates rally to beat Genesee again
The Prairie Pirates trailed most of the first 3 quarters but rallied to pull out a 37-34 win at Genesee in a White Pine League game Thursday, Jan. 7.
Prairie had trouble getting their offense going in the first half as they trailed 6-12 at the end of the first quarter and 13-23 at halftime.
They got more aggressive on defense in the second quarter and held Genesee to just 2 for 17 shooting from the field. Unfortunately both made shots were 3 pointers and the Bulldogs hit 5 of 6 free throws as they were able to extend their lead.
The Pirates turned things around in the third quarter as they hit 6 of 11 shots from the field with Branden Waller going 4 for 4. Meanwhile the defense put the clamps on the Bulldogs, holding them to just 5 shot attempts as the Pirates outscored them 12-2 to tie the game by the end of the quarter at 25-25.
Devin Schmidt scored 6 points in the fourth quarter and Andew Gabica added 4 as Prairie outscored Genesee 12-9 in the decisive fourth quarter.
Waller wound up with 14 points on 7 for 10 shooting. Schmidt scored 11 with Gabica scoring 6, David Sigler 4 and Conner Rieman 2.
Sigler had only 7 shot attempts in the game as Genesee made a special effort to shut him down.
As a team Prairie had 22 rebounds in the game with Sigler, Waller and Gabica each grabbing 5 rebounds.
Sigler had 7 assists and Rieman, Gabica and Schmidt had 2 steals each.
Prairie was 17 for 34 from the field, 50%, and 3 for 4 at the line, 75%. Genesee was 11 for 38 from the field, 29%, and 8 for 14 at the line, 57%.
With their 9th straight win Prairie improves to 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
In the JV game Prairie won 42-33.

Three shoot perfect 25's
Once again the doors were open, the grill was on and faces were familiar as the 2010 season is off with a bang.
The Cottonwood Gun Club had 49 members turn out and sign up for another 10 weeks of shooting and smiles.  Even though it has been quite some time since most shooters have opened their gun case, the scores were high.
The sunny skies and warm temps handed us 3 perfect 25's today.  Ralph Terhaar, Scott Jungert, and Derek Schaeffer were on top of their game today.
Along beside the 25's were Lowell Mader, Ryan Mader, Jake Rowland, Debby Arnzen, Gordon Harman and Andy Uhlorn shot a 24 for score.  The spirits were high in anticipation for their next chance for that perfect score.  Thanks for the support shooters and lets have a great year!
