Ladies Night Out is well attended
Close to 30 women attended the first Ladies Night Out at the St. Mary’s Hospital Cottonwood Medical Clinic last Wednesday evening.  The event was part of their second  Susan B. Komen for the Cure grant from the Boise affiliate of the national organization.  The second Ladies Night Out is planned for Thursday, April 15th from 5:30 to 7:30.  Two attendees take educational materials from the women’s health display at the first SMHC Ladies Night Out.  The next is scheduled for April 15th.
“We had a great time,” said Stephanie Wagner, SMH Clinics Coordinator and Komen planner.  “Our goal is to encourage women to pay attention to their own health.  Often they get too busy and skip their annual female exam, but we thought if we made it a fun, special occasion we’d attract females of all ages.  Some brought their moms and some came with friends.  We’ve already ordered goody bag items for the next evening event in April.”
The Ladies Night Out featured refreshments, free goody bags for attendees, door prizes, music and chair massages.  In addition, the female SMHC health care providers performed wellness exams in the clinic exam rooms.  Appointments are scheduled at the parties for mammograms at a later time.
“Anyone planning on attending the second Ladies Night Out for their annual female wellness exam should give us a call and we’ll make an appointment for that evening with one of our female providers,” said Shari Kuther, RN.
The grant provides free mammograms for 40 women and covers the cost of wellness exams for 100 women who are under or uninsured Idaho County residents.  It will also pay transportation costs for treatment, when necessary.
All women are welcome to the Ladies Night Out parties. Insurance is billed for those covered and the grant will cover the cost for under or uninsured women.  Patient confidentiality about payment source is guaranteed.
North Central District Health Department also received a Komen for the Cure grant aimed at raising awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening.  Collaborating partners include SMHC, Syringa Hospital and Clinics, their cancer resource center, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and McCall Memorial Hospital.
