Kathy Seubert is employee of the month
The St. Mary’s Hospital Customer Service team selected Kathy Seubert, RN, as the June Employee of the Month.  Kathy was originally hired as a night staff nurse in July, 1989.  She was recently appointed Director of Nursing Services and continues to serve as Case Manager and Utilization Review.Kathy Seubert is the June employee of the month at St. Mary's Hospital & Clinics.
As DNS she supervises the hospital nursing staff to ensure quality of care for inpatients.  As Case Manager Kathy evaluates patient needs prior to discharge and helps arrange resources as the patient goes home or transfers to another setting.  In her role with Utilization Review Kathy notifies private and public insurance companies of admits and discharges.
“I like the variety of my job and the ongoing technical advancements in the field of medicine. I also enjoy interacting with our patients and the companionship of my co workers,” said Kathy.  “The vastness of caring for a laboring woman giving birth to offering end of life care and grief support to a dying patient and their family adds so much meaning to my life.”
Kathy decided to become an RN as a little girl after listening to her great aunt relate stories about the wonderful things she accomplished as a nurse.  I also let God direct my path in college and He directed me to care for the sick.  My mom is such a compassionate person and her influence also guided me, said Kathy.  She also joked that going to LCSC for nursing school got her away from her two older brothers.
In her 21 year tenure at SMH she not only worked night shift but evening shift then eventually day shift serving with the labor and delivery staff then also working in the OR after receiving specialized training.  Later, Kathy was appointed charge nurse and served as medical floor coordinator for over ten years.
One of her nomination forms said, “Kathy is one of the most compassionate and caring people I know.  She is a perfect example of what a ‘good’ nurse it. She responds so well during a crisis; is very calming and understanding.  If there was a picture of a nurse under the definition in the dictionary it would be a picture of Kathy.”
She was born and raised in Cottonwood marrying her husband, Ken, in 1986.  Their daughter, Sarah, is 12 years old and helps care for their dogs, chickens, horses, ten cats and their rabbit.  Kathy enjoys reading, being outdoors, camping, four wheeling and traveling.
“We’re so fortunate to have Kathy on our staff,” said an SMHC customer service team member.  “She always puts the patient first and treats her co-workers with such great respect.  She is conscientious and everyone loves her.”
