Another successful blood drive
Both Cheri Holthaus and myself would like to thank the community for helping to make our July blood drive a successful one,” said co-chair Brenda Kaschmitter.  “Even though we didn’t quite make a goal we still feel it was a success; summer months are tough to meet goal with farmers in the fields and people on vacation. We would like to give a special thanks to our first time donors; Chris Fortunato, Sue McAfee, Jenny Arnzen, Debbie Rose, Alyssa Frei, Natasha Vilensky, Collette Schaeffer and Ashlee Behler.  We also had many who received milestone awards; Brian Lattimer 1 gallon, Bertie Forsmann 3 gallons, Shawn Severson 4 gallons, Marilyn Lerandeau and June Behler both received their 5 gallon pins. Bettie Mader 6 gallon and brothers Kevin and Jim Rehder received their 8 gallon pins.”  According to the Red Cross coordinator the Cottonwood Blood Drive is one of the biggest in the area.  The Red Cross workers also commented; “the people at the Cottonwood drive are always so friendly and welcoming, we truly enjoy coming here.”
Thanks to all those who gave blood and also a special thanks to those who came but were deferred for one reason or another; we hope that you are willing to try again at the next drive which is scheduled for October 26th.
A very special thanks to the many volunteers who helped to make this blood drive so successful; Marlene Jungert, Helen Huntley, Sally Rehder, Anna Gehring, Delores VonBargen, Doris Sonnen, Bobbie Schmidt, Marilyn Schmidt, Laurine Nightingale, Seth Guyer, Josh Roeper and US Bank employees   And a very special thanks to VFW Post 492 for supplying the lunch for the Red Cross employees; this is always a special treat for them.  Without all these volunteers this blood drive would not be possible. These volunteers do a variety of jobs; escorting donors, preparing the maple bars and fruit, signing in the donors, offering refreshments to the donors, and making phone calls.  “We would also like to thank the hospital maintenance crew for setting up and putting away the tables and chairs and to Donna Quick who came in and helped out at the end of the day, their help was much appreciated,” said Holthaus.
“We hope to see all the past donors and volunteers again on October 26th and maybe even a few new ones.  If you would like to donate or volunteer please feel free to contact either myself at 962-2327 or Brenda Kaschmitter at 962-3251,” said Cheri Holthaus; blood drive co-chair.
