Pirates win league opener
The Prairie Pirates opened White Pine League play with a 47-34 win over Kendrick Friday, Dec. 10 at Cottonwood.
The win also evened their season record at 2-2.David Johnson looks for an opening to the hoop as he is double teamed by Kendrick defenders.
Prairie scored first in the game as Beau Schlader scored on a short ump shot but the lead changed hands 3 times after that in a hard fought first quarter. 
Prairie took their second lead at 5-4 when Devin Schmidt, who had struggled at the free throw line in their first 3 games, converted all 3 attempts when he was fouled on a 3-point try.
After Kendrick took back the lead, Schmidt tied the game when he scored a lay-up off an inbounds play with 31 seconds left to make it 9-9 at the quarter.
Justin Schmidt, in the game because Seth Guyer got into foul trouble, got Prairie off to a strong start in the second quarter with a pair of baskets and Devin Schmidt added a perimeter score to make it 15-9.
Prairie led by as many as 7 in the quarter at 20-13 and 22-15 but Kendrick scored the final 4 points to pull within 3 at the half, 22-19.
The tigers scored first in the third quarter to cut the lead to 1 but Schlader then scored 2 free throws and added a tip-in to make it 26-21. After a Kendrick basket Schlader hit a 3-pointer to make it 29-23. 
Prairie took a 36-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
Prairie put the game away by holding Kendrick scoreless for an 8:05 span from late in the third quarter until late in the fourth as they scored 9 straight points to take a 45-28 lead.
Prairie then went to running the clock on offense and Kendrick was able to out scored them 2-6 in the final 1:15 but still lost by 13.
Devin Schmidt had 15 points to lead the Pirates in scoring while Schlader scored 13 and Justin Schmidt 12. David Johnson added 4 points while Seth Chaffee scored 2 and Seth Guyer scored 1.

Schlader had 4 steals and 6 assists in the game.
Prairie was 18 for 44 from the field, 41%, and 8 for 12 at the line, 67%. Kendrick was 14 for 44 from the field, 32%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%.
In the JV game Prairie never led until a 6-0 spurt to start the second half and wound up with a 36-27 win.
Prairie trailed 5-8 at the quarter break as they had more turnovers than shot attempts in the quarter. They still trailed 10-13 at the half as they hit just 1 of 12 shots from the field but hit 3 of 4 free throws to keep it close.
They found their shooting touch in the second half, hitting 11 of 21 from the field.
Seth Chaffee started the second half with a basket and Chris Hoene scored a pair of free throws to give Prairie their first lead of the game.
Chaffee added another basket to make it 16-13.
Kendrick came back with a 0-5 run of their own to take back the lead. A steal by Jarrod Higgins though led to a 3-pointer by Marcus Higgins to make it 19-18.
Kendrick tied it with a free throw then Chris Hoene outscored Kendrick 7-2 the rest of the quarter to give Prairie the lead for good.
Marcus Higgins scored 6 points in the fourth quarter to help Prairie pull away to the 9 point final margin.
Hoene and Marcus Higgins each scored 12 points while Chaffee scored 6. Troy Lorentz scored 4 and Tyler Hankerson scored 2.
Hoene had 11 rebounds to lead Prairie although Kendrick had a 22-28 edge on the boards.
Hoene and Jarrod Higgins had 4 steals each and Chaffee had 3 steals. Lorentz, both Higgins and Chaffee each had 2 assists.
Prairie was 14 for 39 from the field, 36%, and 7 for 14 at the line, 50%. Kendrick was 11 for 29 from the field, 38%, and 5 for 11 at the line, 56%.

Pirates win big at Orofino
Seth Guyer had his best game of the young season with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Prairie to a 66-34 win at Orofino in non-league action Monday, Dec. 13.
Devin Schmidt also scored 18 points and Beau Schlader had 13 in the rout.
The Pirates had their best shooting night of the season as well as they connected on 56% of their shots from the field.
Prairie jumped out to a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and increased the lead to 32-14 by halftime.
Orofino outscored Prairie 12-13 in the third quarter but Prairie pulled away in the fourth by outscoring the Maniacs 22-7.
Also scoring for Prairie were Justin Schmidt with 9, Brock heath with 5, Marcus Higgins with 2 and David Johnson with 1.
With the win Prairie moves over the .500 mark on the season to 3-2 overall.
Prairie also won the JV game 55-31.
