is employee of the month
Six years ago this month, Mikki Bruegeman was hired at St. Mary’s Hospital to work part time as a file clerk. She enjoyed the medical setting so enrolled in a Medical Secretary course which she completed in May, 1997. Her job responsibilities expanded and so did her hours. She now works full time in Medical Records.
“It’s amazing how our department has grown over the years,” laughed Mikki. “When I was first hired we didn’t have a photocopier or fax machine and we even shared computers.”
Her current job responsibilities include checking the patient medical charts to make sure they are in compliance and contain the appropriate physician signatures, completed dictation and nursing notes. She also checks to make sure the necessary charges have been captured. In addition, Mikki ensures the birth certificates are completed and filed properly.
“I enjoy the medical profession and love working with people. I am very blessed to work at SMHC,” said Mikki. “I look forward to the challenges and staying up to date with the changes and new avenues within the field of Medical Records.”
In addition to her work responsibilities, Mikki also volunteers on the SMHC Mission Committee, Employee Satisfaction and Customer Service teams.
Along with the standard nomination forms for Mikki, the Radiology Department made a small poster with everyone’s signatures encouraging the customer service team members to select her. Some of the praise in the nomination forms included, ‘always friendly, helpful and cooperative; ‘go-to-girl’ with any questions or concerns; kind and cordial while effectively working well with other departments; I am grateful I get to work with her daily; wears a smile all day; her support for the local community is outstanding and selfless; and an awesome human being.’
When she is not at work Mikki enjoys spending time with her husband, Jesse, and two boys, Kyle, age 18 and Dylon, age 14. Together they go camping, four wheeling, hiking and cross country skiing. She also enjoys reading and baking.
Each Employee of the Month is spotlighted in the Dining Room bulletin board and featured in the newspaper. Last year the employees voted for the Employee of the Year from among the 12 employees of the month.
