Pirates lose slugfest at Kamiah
It seems the Prairie baseball team just can’t catch a break this season as they scored 20 runs at Kamiah last Tuesday, April 19 and still couldn’t win as Kamiah beat them 20-21 in a no-league game.
Prairie pounded out 13 hits in the game while Kamiah had 11. There were also a ton of errors on both sides with 4 credited to Prairie and 8 to Kamiah.
Prairie scored 2 runs in the top of the first but Kamiah answered with 3 in the bottom of the inning. Prairie took back the lead with 4 in the second and 3 in the third to take a 9-3 lead into the bottom of the third inning.
Kamiah cut the lead to 9-7 with a 4-run third but Prairie made it 12-7 with 4 runs in the fourth.
Kamiah came storming back with an 8-run inning to retake the lead at 12-15 and made it 12-16 after the fifth inning.
Prairie put 7 runs on the board in the 6th to take back the lead at 19-16. Troy Lorentz hit a grand slam homer in the inning to account for 4 of those 7 runs. Prairie added another run in the 7th to take a 20-16 lead into the bottom of the 7th but Kamiah was able to rally with 5 runs to win the game.
Lorentz had 2 doubles in addition to his homer while Shawn Seubert had a double and a single, Devin Schmidt had 2 singles and Marcus Higgins, Garrett Schmidt, Robert Nau and Tyler Hankerson each had a single.
Seth Guyer started on the mound for the Pirates with Garrett Schmidt taking over in the third and Robert Nau in the fourth.
The loss drops the Pirates to 0-6 on the season.
Their game at Genesee scheduled for Thursday, April 21 has been rescheduled to noon on Saturday, April 30 at Harris Field in Lewiston due to rain and snow.
