Troop Scoop
On July 24-30 2011 troop 638 went to Camp Grizzly for a week long camp. Seven days and six nights.  It was the new boys first long camp out since crossing over.
Our camp site this year was Upper Chapel Hill. We shared with Troop 199, from the tri-city  area.
After checking in and unloading, we went down to waterfront to do our swim test. All the boys passed and received their swimmers.
We went back up to the campsite to unload and get ready for flags. The boys had an opportunity to retire the flags one night during the week. Later that evening the boys signed up for their merit badges they would be working on during the week. Anthony Karel received his rifle, swimming, leather work, partial camping MB, 1st aid, wood carving, sculpture, and art.
Hunter Chaffee received his rifle, partial swimming MB, leather work, partial camping MB, 1st aid, wood carving, sculpture, and art.
Carson Schmidt received his rifle, swimming, partial archery MB, partial camping MB, 1st aid, wood carving, and sculpture.
Jared Coppernoll received his rifle, partial swimming MB, leather work, partial camping MB, 1st aid, and wood carving.
The partial merit badges such as archery and swimming require the boys to complete a couple more requirements for that badge. As for the Camping merit badge the boys need to go on 20 camp outs. By going up to camp they can count the 6 nights toward the 20 required. They have 14 more to go to receive this badge.
Also during the week we leveled a pile of dirt below the dinning hall for a service project, went on a poke-mon shoot using long bows, troop water front relay, Honor trail (remembering those who served in the past), open
camp fire, chapel service, polar bear swim, all boys earned their toten chip, and on Friday they performed a skit.
During our last flag ceremony the boys received a red "Camp Grizzly Honor Unit" ribbon to be hung on their troop flag. The boys went as a new Patrol to camp this year. Their patrol name is the Lightning Jacks-they wear a lightning bolt badge on the right side of the BSA uniform.
The boys are already talking about next year and what merit badges that they would like to try.
