Flag retirement ceremony
The Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop and Pack 638, and Girl Scout Troop 3785 of Cottonwood held a flag retirement ceremony on Friday, November 11, 2011, at the City Park.
24 flags were retired on Veteran’s Day evening honoring all our soldiers.  Flags can only be retired by the Military, VFW type organizations, and Scouts.  In the picture above, Bill and Denise Schacher’s flag was retired honoring their son, Senior Airman Mitchell A. Schacher.  The Schacher flag was displayed 24-7 at their home from May 2009, to October 2009, with the appropriate lighting, while Mitchell served overseas in the Afghanistan war.  He returned safely to the states in October 2009, and is now stationed at the Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, NM.  If you have a flag that needs retiring, please contact Shari Chaffee at 962-3559, Aleta Coppernoll at 962-3724, or Dan Karel 962-5350, along with a history of your flag, and the Scouts would be happy to oblige at their 2012 ceremony.

Pictured with Airman Schacher’s flag are:  Standing L-R:  Jace Perrin, Kevin Tillinghast, Seth Chaffee, Cole Martin, Drew Cochran, Keenan Shears, Anthony Karel, and Ciara Chaffee. Kneeling:  Matt & Jared Coppernoll, Hunter Chaffee, Caleb Butler, and Travis Alfrey. Photo submitted by Pat Alfrey.

Girl Scouts to hold baked food sale
Girl Scout Troop 3785 will be having a baked food sale at Arnzen Drug on Monday, November 21st from 3:15 p.m. until about 5 p.m. (weather permitting).
The Girl Scout council in Spokane changed the whole program and books the girls use. The money from this baked food sale will help pay for the new books as well as patches and awards the girls earn. Anything left over after the books are paid for will go toward outings for the girls like ice skating, a movie or bowling.
There will be lots of goodies so you can stock up for the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you in advance for your support.
