Pirates lose big to Kamiah
Too many turnovers plus hot shooting through the first 3 quarters by Kamiah led to a 36-59 loss by Prairie to the Kubs Tuesday, Dec. 13 in a non-league game at Cottonwood.
Prairie connected on 5 of 8 shots in the first quarter but it took them awhile to even take their first shot as Kamiah forced several early turnovers in building a 0-9 lead.
Marcus Higgins put Prairie on the board with a baseline shot with 4:10 left. 
After a basket by Lucas Arnzen with 10 seconds left in the period Prairie had cut the lead down to 4 at 11-15 but Kamiah’s Jack Nygaard hit a shot in the final seconds to make it 17-11.Marcus Higgins and a Kamiah player battle for possession of the ball.
Prairie was still within striking distance midway through the second at 15-21 when Kamiah put together a 2-15 run to take a 17-35 lead. Higgins broke the dry spell with a 3-pointer and added a pair of free throws. Rhett Schlader added 2 more free throws as Prairie cut the lead to 11 but Kamiah led by 12 at the half despite the Pirates hitting 9 of 15 shots, 60%. 15 turnovers led to a lot of easy baskets for the Kubs and the Kubs also benefited at the line as they attempted 14 free throws in the half, making 9, while Prairie was 5 for 6.
Kamiah blew the game open in the third quarter as Prairie’s shooting touch deserted them. The Pirates hit just 1 of 9 shots in the quarter, a 3-pointer by Seth Chaffee, while the Kubs were hitting 9 of 16 and scoring 21 points. The Kubs finished the quarter with a 0-17 run.
With a 30 point margin after 3 quarters there was a running clock in the fourth quarter and Prairie managed to outscore the Kubs 9-2 in the final frame.
Justin Schmidt led the Pirates in scoring with 11 points while Higgins scored 9. Chaffee scored 7, Schlader 6, Arnzen 2 and Tyler Hankerson 1.
Kamiah held a 24-29 rebounding edge. Schmidt led Prairie with 11 rebounds while Chaffee had 5.
Higgins and Schlader had 2 assists each while Schmidt, Chaffee and Troy Lorentz had 1 steal each.
Prairie was 14 for 34 from the field, 41%, and 6-10 at the line, 60%. Kamiah was 22 for 49 from the field, 45%, and 14 for 22 at the line, 64%.
In the JV game Prairie suffered their first loss of the season as the Kubs pulled away to a 43-59 win.
Kamiah jumped out to a 2-11 lead and led 7-15 at the quarter break. Tyler Hankerson scored all 7 of Prairie’s points in the quarter.
Prairie started the second quarter strong as Dylon Bruegeman scored the first 5 points of the period to cut the lead to 3 at 12-15.
After a Kamiah basket, a free throw by Dakota Wilson and 2 free throws by Bryson Higgins trimmed the lead to 2 at 15-17.
Kamiah responded with a 0-7 run though and led 18-26 at the half.
In the third quarter Jared Higgins scored 6 and Casey Danly 4 but Prairie couldn’t get any closer than 7 points at 30-37.
In the fourth quarter they were able to cut the lead to 6 at 43-39 with 4:03 left after a steal and drive for a lay-up by Bryson Higgins. That was Prairie last points though as Kamiah scored the final 10.
Hankerson scored 9 to lead the JV’s in scoring with Danly scoring 8, Bruegeman and Wilson 7 each, Jared Higgins 6, Bryson Higgins 4 and Jake Rowland 2.
Kamiah held a 28-38 rebounding edge. Danly led Prairie with 8 with Wilson adding 6 rebounds.
Danly also had 3 steals to lead the team while Jared Higgins had 3 assists and Rowland had 2.
Prairie was 16 for 47 from the field, 34%, and 11 for 18 at the line, 61%. Kamiah was 27 for 58 from the field, 47%, and 4 for 8 at the line, 50%.

Pirates lose by 11 to Nezperce
The Prairie Pirates played an unbeaten Nezperce team tough in the first half but went on to lose 32-43 at Cottonwood Thursday, Dec. 15.
Prairie came out strong and actually led the Indians 13-12 at the end of the first quarter but the Indians took control in the second period and managed to take a 20-24 lead by halftime.
Neither team scored much in the third quarter as Prairie’s defense kept them in the game despite their lack of offense. Nezperce led 23-31 heading into the final quarter.
Marcus Higgins and Josh Zigler scored 10 points each to lead the Pirates in scoring with Rhett Schlader and Troy Lorentz scoring 4 each while Justin Schmidt and Seth Chaffee added 2 each.
Nezperce also won the JV game, edging the Pirates 45-46.

Pirates lose big at Genesee
The Prairie Pirates struggled to penetrate Genesee’s press and on the other end couldn’t stop Sam Druffel as the Pirates fell 37-63 in a nonleague game at Genesee Saturday, Dec. 17.

Their lone basket of the quarter came after Marcus Higgins stole the ball from Genesee and passed to Justin Schmidt for a lay-up.
Prairie trailed 2-12 at the end of the first quarter with Druffel having scored 6 of Genesee’s points.
Prairie outscored Genesee 9-4 early in the second quarter with Marcus Higgins connecting on a 2-pointer and then a 3-pointer while Rhett Schlader converted a 3-point play and Schmidt added a free throw as Prairie pulled within 11-16.
Genesee then reeled off 9 straight points and took a 13-25 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs really got rolling on offense in the third quarter hitting 11 of 15 shots and outscoring the Pirates 10-27 in the quarter to take a 23-52 lead after 3 quarters.
They pulled the starters in the fourth as both teams went to the bench with Prairie outscoring Genesee 14-11 in the final period.
Schlader had 10 points to lead the Pirates in scoring with Schmidt scoring 9, Marcus Higgins 7, Tyler Hankerson 5 and Jared Higgins 4.
Rebounding was even up for the game at 24 each with Schmidt collecting 7 to lead the Pirates.
Marcus Higgins had 4 steals and 4 assists to lead the team in both categories.
Prairie was 12 for 36 from the field, 33%, and 8 for 11 at the line, 73%. Genesee was 26 for 45 from the field, 58%, and 8 for 13 at the line, 62%. 
Druffel led the Bulldogs with 21 points in 3 quarters of play.
With the loss Prairie drops to 0-5 on the season, all non-league games so far.
In the JV game a 17-6 second quarter helped Prairie to a 52-36 win.
Prairie trailed 8-12 at the end of the first quarter with Tyler Hankerson scoring half of Prairie’s points and Casey Danly adding 3.
Prairie opened the second quarter with a 13-2 run with Lucas Arnzen scoring 4 and Dylon Bruegeman 3.
Prairie held a 25-18 lead at the half. 
Genesee cut the lead to 5 at 30-25 in the third quarter but Prairie then ended the third quarter with a 13-2 run to take control.
Bruegeman scored 5 of those 13 points with Arnzen scoring 4 as Prairie took a 43-27 lead into the fourth quarter.
Scoring was even at 9 each in the fourth quarter.
Bruegeman and Bryson Higgins each scored 10 to lead the JV’s in scoring with Tanner Ross scoring 8, Danly 7, Arnzen 6, Hankerson 5, Dakota Wilson 4, and Jared Higgins 2.
Prairie held a 40-33 rebounding edge with Hankerson and Jared Higgins each grabbing 7 rebounds.
Bruegeman and Ross each had 4 steals while Arnzen had 3 assists.
Prairie was 19 for 49 from the field, 39%, and 15 for 23 at the line, 65%. Genesee was 14 for 48 from the field, 29%, and 6 for 13 at the line, 46%.
